The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is inspire and motivate. While these seem like simple elements, in successfully doing so, the tutor has essentially altered the learning experiences for the student from that moment onwards. The student is then able to develop their confidence in their subjects, push to achieve their goals,…

I believe that the greatest affect that a good tutor can do for a student is to infatuate the student into the subject, meaning to truly engage and interest the student in the topic. Once this happens the student will grow a love for the subject, leading them to career paths regarding this subject. This will more importantly grow a work ethic for…

I touched on some of these points in my previous answers, but as a tutor I believe the ultimate goal should be to provide one's students with an academic toolbox in the form of an understanding of the fundamental principles of any given topic. By covering first principles, and providing students with problem-solving abilities, he or she can then…

As a tutor, the ability to get a student invested in the topic they are learning and keep it sustained by making the process an organized effort through active conversations and dialogue is vital in any classroom. Being a student myself, I understand the mindset a student has when trying to mentally grasp a concept and use it to solve problems.…

The most important thing a tutor does for his students is boosting the morale of their weak students and providing them assistance accordingly because every student has a different grasping level so, unlike a teacher, the tutor has to modify his teaching methods and strategies according to his students. The tutor can find a common wavelength and understand the student's way of grasping. Every student has a different way of learning and perceive stuff. i find out different ways to solve one question. I definitely think that there needs to be a solid understanding of the student and the way in which they learn so that the tutor can teach them in a way which is most effective to them. Along with this, I think that the tutor should make the student feel comfortable with them so that they feel free to ask questions or ask for further…

I think it is a tutor's job to make the subject fun for the kid and make them love the subject, not develop a hate for it. I used to hate chemistry back in highschool and found it very hard until I found a tutor who made me understand it and I eventually started to love the subject. I ended up getting an A* in the subject. I would want to follow…

The most important thing a tutor can do in my opinion is be patient with a student and try and understand the problem from their perspective. Inside HendraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Lily practised fractions, multiplication and division, as well as exploring highest common factor (HCF), lowest common factor (LCF), and basic percentages through real-life word problems.

In Year 9, Josh focused on solving simultaneous equations and quadratic equations using algebraic techniques.

For Year 11, Jackson worked through the Sine and Cosine Rule for non-right angled triangles and completed assignment tasks involving graphing exponentials.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, one student avoided writing out full working in complex algebra, which led to small but persistent sign errors—he skipped showing steps in factorization, which hid mistakes until the final answer.

In Year 8, another student's worded problem solutions were hard to follow due to disorganized layout; steps were jumbled and sometimes missing.

A Year 5 learner lost confidence after making mistakes in mental arithmetic and hesitated to trust their own calculations during multiplication drills.

When feedback was provided on a draft assignment for a senior student, notes weren't consistently applied before submission, leaving repeated gaps unaddressed.

Recent Achievements

One Hendra tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who previously lost marks for rushing assignments; this time, she set out her maths answers methodically and explained each step, leading to fewer careless errors.

In Year 8, a student who once hesitated to ask for help now regularly checks their reasoning on challenging geometry problems—she'll pause and request clarification instead of guessing through the question.

Meanwhile, a younger learner in Year 2 grew comfortable reading numbers up to 40 aloud and has started initiating conversations during lessons without prompting, which is a first for him.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hamilton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hendra State School.
