Making sure that the student properly understands what they're being taught and assisted with - that the information is going to stick and actually be of use to them after the tutoring session is over. Being able to break down complicated writing-related concepts into a form that's both novel and understandable. I'm also a fast reader, and am…

Passion and patience will always come up first. No matter how good the strategy is, if a tutor doesn't have passion on teaching and patience to get along with students, students won't be able to improve efficiently. As a previous special education teacher, and currently a speech pathology student, I can understand that being patient plays an…

The most important things I can do for a student is to come prepared and organised to lessons. Making the most of my time with the student is essential to help the student gain the most advantage from tutoring. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to instill a sense of confidence in the student about their own ability. The tutor can demonstrate to the student that they can achieve their different goals and help them achieve these. The tutor can also create a plan to show the student how to goal will be achieved. This will create a…

First of all, empathy so student never feels uncomfortable about not knowing a topic. Secondly, the ability to listen is as important as explaining things, so I'll be able to understand their point of view on a specific problem/subject. And, of course, the knowledge the tutor provides will be a main achievement and a perfect indicator of progress.…

I think tutor should do everything for his or her students because after the parents only teacher is one person who can very closed for the student. Tutor should look after their students and if they have any bad habit then it's tutor responsibility to guide them in right direction and also inform their parents. Tutor can make hard subject into…

The most important things that tutors can do are: 1. Creating a supportive, non-judgmental environment: specifically when students make errors. By supporting them and helping fix their errors, they can learn and build confidence for future questions. 2. Adapt to the student's learning style: each student learns differently (e.g. visual, audio,…

The important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them feel more confident about their abilities and knowledge. The more they can back them-self, the more they can be composed in a test environment, the better they perform in test conditions, the better their marks. It is important for tutors to explain the concept in a way that gives the student true understanding rather than just a shortcut for test questions. This way the student can apply that knowledge to different situations. I've tutored my younger siblings throughout school so I'm good at working with kids who like to complain that it's too hard. I'm…

Inside HerdsmanTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ava worked on multiplying and dividing fractions, along with strategies for solving worded problems involving measurement.

In Year 8, Ethan focused on simplifying algebraic expressions and expanded brackets using step-by-step written methods.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Lily explored trigonometry basics and practiced applying sine and cosine rules to solve right-angled triangle questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student's algebra progress was slowed by inconsistent homework completion—"failed to complete all homework questions," one note recorded.

In Year 10, careless handling of negative signs in calculations led to repeated errors; as observed, "details, careless mistakes" meant that time was spent fixing issues rather than moving forward with new concepts.

For a Year 7 student working on linear graphs, unclear written work and skipping question details made extracting the required information difficult, which disrupted understanding.

Meanwhile, in upper primary maths, forgotten multiplication tables left one student hunting for answers instead of building fluency.

Recent Achievements

One Herdsman tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to skip steps now carefully reads each question before starting calculations, leading to fewer careless mistakes in statistics problems.

In Year 8, another student has started bringing completed homework every session and recently tackled balancing equations without prompting—she'd previously needed reminders just to start.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who struggled with her 8 and 9 times tables last term can now recall them quickly and managed all the related questions without any hesitation during the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cambridge Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chrysalis Montessori School.
