Business Studies Tutor Kirwan, QLD
One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to not only teach content but to be there as a mentor. Exam periods, life and post-school options can all be stressful for students and it is vital that a tutor can mentor students throughout this through stress mechanisms. This, coupled with effective teaching methods and provision…

Inside Hermit ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Isaac worked through quadratic equations in maths, including more challenging problems, and focused on chemistry skills like writing ionic compounds and naming covalent compounds.

Year 11 student Sophia tackled the binomial theorem by expanding using Pascal's triangle, along with revising index laws for an upcoming formative assessment.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Eve reviewed trigonometry questions from a past exam and addressed mistakes in similarity and congruence problems, discussing strategies to approach complex questions confidently.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students missed or did not complete assigned homework, leading to repeated gaps in practice—one Year 10 maths student "could not finish her assigned Homework again" and struggled with graphing tasks.

In senior chemistry, a Year 12 student arrived unprepared without the online textbook, which slowed lesson progress and limited problem-solving.

Organization was also an obstacle for a Year 11 science student who "could not locate the most updated version of the assessment," disrupting feedback on critical work.

These process issues led to lost time troubleshooting basics instead of advancing into deeper revision or exam preparation.

Recent Achievements

One Hermit Park tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after struggling with trigonometry basics, started pinpointing her mistakes and now works through both familiar and complex problems with more accuracy.

A senior student recently brought a full essay draft—along with teacher feedback—to tutoring, having acted on previous advice and showing clearer structure than before.

In a primary session, the student who once hesitated now regularly asks questions when unsure and completes division problems independently. Last week, she finished all her homework independently for the first time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I would certainly recommend Ezymath to prospective students. Having a tutor who is close in location and able to work at developing a relationship with each individual student can greatly assist students in discovering how to succeed in maths. I would also strongly recommend Ezymath's professional development activities and CEP modules to other prospective tutors. I have appreciated the important learning lessons within the CEP modules and have applied this to my tutoring and used it to help my students. It has also been fantastic to develop relationships with my students and their parents over the past year and a half. In this time I have seen my students grow personally and academically. One particular grade 7 student I have seen progress from low B's to high A's within the time I have been tutoring him. However, my greatest achievement during the time I have been tutoring is to have helped my two current students to realise just how much hard work they need to put in to do their very best with maths. Both of these students have seen considerable improvements in their results as we have developed habits such as regularly completing revision quizzes, developing key memory pegs & triggers to remember strategies and rules. Once my students discovered that practicing such techniques and putting in so much regular revision time improved their results, they were more motivated and determined to continue putting in such efforts to keep improving their marks.

Tutoring with Ezymaths has been a great experience for me. When I joined two years ago I thought I wouldn't last the first month let alone the next two years. It's amazing how organised the company is and how much help you receive as a new tutor. I joined the company to earn some extra cash and the benefits of learning about teaching were a bonus. Ezymath tutoring is a network of students, teachers and tutors who share information to improve the way we teach our children. Every student has a different way of learning and learns at a different pace. The benefit of gaining a tutor through a company means there is no single mind teaching your child. The collective advice and experience of the tutors within the company allows us to teach your children in the most effective possible manner. I personally have gained great experience to put on my resume and nothing is more pleasing there to see a child improve their education and confidence to push themselves further in life. If you are considering a position at the company or just looking for some extra help for your child you won't find a better class of trained tutors.

My experience with ezymaths was one like a rollercoaster that ended on a high note. What's special about ezymaths is that you will find support and there will be teaching material and teaching strategies available if you get stuck. Overall, as a tutor, you will learn a lot more than you will expect.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Citylibraries Flinders Street—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hermit Park State School.
