The ability to understand what students struggle with and where they are coming from with their problem is very important. Since we know the root of the problem, we are able to know what and how to teach the student in order for them to understand us clearly. I used to struggle in school a lot, therefore, I have a big understanding of how and what…

A tutor should be flexible and able to tailor instruction to the needs of each individual. A tutor should be empathetic in order to understand the needs of the child. A tutor should be patient and never make a child feel as if they are not meeting expectations. A tutor should be encouraging and teach the child to believe in themselves and…

I believe that the most important things an english tutor can do for a student is to be passionate and enthusiastic when teaching them so they feel as though they are in a comfortable environment. I also think it is important to be patient and adaptable as different students learn and understand content in different ways. As a tutor, I think my…

A tutor needs to be extremely patient and understanding, the student needs you to help take all of that away for them. Making your student feel comfortable enough that they can ask you the same question multiple times without being made to feel silly or inadequate. Learning to adapt on the spot to meet each students needs is also extremely…

The tutor needs to have a passion for their teaching. This passion encourages my student to become passionate as well. I think the most important thing is to be encouraging and make sure they know how much you believe in them. I think that once you believe you can you are basically halfway there I'm kind and incredibly patient! I was also a very visual learner so didn't quite get the approach most teachers took at school. Particularly year 11 and 12 I had to find…

Encouragement and patience. Through personal experience, even if the student improve their score by 1% from their last test, this is enough of an encouragement for them to push harder and let them know you will be their for them anytime when they are stuck or needing help. I view the role of an english tutor as more of a assistant to the teacher. I main goal for the a tutor is to go in-depth on discussed in the classroom allowing the students to wrap their head around concepts that were once perceived as difficult and challenging. My main priority as an english tutor has always been to develop a love, or at least form of passion, from the student regarding whatever I teach. From first hand experience I know that it is almost impossible to truly devote effort and time into a subject you can't stand. Tutors can be a reason to guide the students in the right direction. Sometimes, a student might need a tiny little nudge to get them on track and tutors can be or are the right persons for that. A tutor can be a friend guiding the student in every obstacle they come across. A tutor can also be a role model for the students by creating a long…

Emphasizing the mindset of the student. They too do have mood swings and we need to act accordingly. Inside HighettTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Liam worked on algebra basics and worded questions, using step-by-step examples to strengthen his problem-solving approach.

For Year 10, Jasmine practised expanding and factorising quadratic expressions and revisited linear equations through homework review.

Meanwhile, in VCE Physics (Year 12), Alex prepared for SAC 1 by applying key concepts from motion and forces, focusing on calculations relevant to assessment requirements.

Recent Challenges

For a Year 10 student, he needs to improve his answer layout—how he writes answers on paper, as one tutor observed; unclear working made reviewing linear equations much harder.

In Year 11 Science, missing key notes and not summarizing lessons left gaps before assessments.

One Year 8 student relied on quick mental shortcuts in algebra but skipped writing steps, leading to lost marks when sign errors appeared.

A Year 4 learner often forgot their maths book at home, so practice with time-telling was inconsistent—confidence dipped each time progress stalled mid-task.

Recent Achievements

One Highett tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to skip over worded maths problems now taking the time to highlight key details and draw diagrams before solving, which led him to finish several expansion and factorisation questions without any errors.

In another session, a Year 9 student who was hesitant about trigonometry started identifying patterns in angle problems on his own and applied rules from previous lessons with much more independence.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student made a clear leap by remembering both o'clock and half-past positions when telling time and even corrected herself mid-task when counting by fives.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Rebecca had her third session with Kerryn tonight and is finding the tutoring helpful.  She has trial HSC exams in three weeks' time and finds Kerryn is good at explaining the concepts that she's struggling with.  I am impressed with Kerryn's calm manner and ability to explain things well to her.

I would like to express my satisfaction with Ezy Math Tutoring and I would not hesitate to use you in the future or recommend you.  Mitchell Fung worked very well with my son and I was very pleased with his knowledge and nature.  A big thankyou.

All is going very well with Eden's tutoring.  We are very happy and our only regret is that we didn't do this earlier. Eden has said she has understood maths more with Calvin than in all her years at school. We look forward to seeing Eden's confidence in maths grow steadily and am pleased she is comfortable with Calvin's patience to keep questioning him in areas she struggles with.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Highett Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Moorabbin Primary School.
