The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach the student to enjoy learning, and impart a good studying method. After all, even the best tutor cannot help an unmotivated student, and a lack of self-motivation is the biggest obstacle that many underperforming students fail to overcome. I am good at following the student's pace.…

Firstly, a tutor can give guiding questions instead of displaying the answers straightaway. This way, the students can be prompted to think of a way to get to the solution. Secondly, I believe a tutor should build the foundation first before going deeper into the subject. I am a patient person. I would give time for the students to digest the…

Personally, I think striking a balance between fostering a comfortable student-tutor relationship and challenging the student is important. Creating a genuine relationship helps the student open up to the tutor and be honest on what are the topics he/she is having a hard time understanding. On the other hand, challenging the students will help…

I think the tutor needs to make the student as comfortable as possible, with themselves and the learning process. Local Reviews

Our tutor has been very encouraging and supportive and has made every effort to give us constructive performance feedback at the end of each tutoring session. We have noticed a difference in our daughter's attitude and confidence towards maths since starting her tutoring.
Emma

Inside HindmarshTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Emily focused on multiplying whole numbers with decimals and adding/subtracting decimal numbers up to four digits, then moved into two-digit multiplication.

For Year 8, Aiden tackled algebraic equations including power laws and distributive law, and practised simplifying expressions with like terms using textbook questions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Liam worked through surface area and volume calculations for composite shapes, applying formulas to a mix of practice problems from recent classwork.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, incomplete homework and "a better attempt at homework questions" stood out—one tutor noted, "more initiative doing set homework" is needed.

For a Year 10 student, over-reliance on calculators in algebra meant fewer chances to strengthen mental arithmetic ("student needs to work on mental arithmetic as they rely on calculator too much").

A senior maths student struggled with test revision by only practicing familiar material, avoiding harder probability and statistics questions—this left gaps before assessments.

In primary maths, anxiety during problem-solving sometimes blocked recall under pressure, leading to missed steps even when concepts were understood.

Recent Achievements

One Hindmarsh tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to quietly guess when stuck now regularly explains the exact steps she finds challenging, making it much easier to target support.

In another session, a Year 8 student who previously rushed through homework now double-checks answers and corrects mistakes before moving on—something he rarely did last term.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student named Natalia has started breaking down tricky worded maths problems by herself, confidently choosing which operation to use and solving them without needing prompts from her tutor.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with the way things have started with Todd. India is finding her sessions very helpful and Todd is very patient and constructive.

Our tutor Adrian was excellent for my daughter to help "fill the gaps" prior to starting high school this year. Adrian made maths fun, was personable and professional. Ezy Maths provided excellent service & communication .

Mathew and Phi are working well together. Phi is a lovely young man, very polite and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Phi as he is building a good connection with Matthew and has been very patient, repeating his instructions and challenging Mathew to think about what he is doing.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hindmarsh Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Joseph's School.
