The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be positive, have patience and communicate frequently. This would ensure the learning environment for the students stays in a positive vibe as it would promote learning as well as improvement. Patience would be key as everyone has a different learning pace and it is important to have…

the most important things that a tutor can do is enhancing creativities, and building logic to solve the problem. because sometimes, a tutor can improve students' grade but by teaching tricks to solve math problem, not by enhancing creativities. trying to improve solving problem logic and increase creativities can take longer time but once…

For them to finish a lesson and have learnt something new or a new method or technique that may save them time or understand the question a lot easier now. I can explain information at understandable and clear way but if the student needs further clarification I am able to teach them further. I also like to use visual aids rather than speaking to…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to ask lots of questions, and be a mentor on top of being a tutor. I'm meticulous in my teaching approach, being an advocate for deeper understanding of topics. I always explain concepts step by step (derivations and proofs where necessary), and make sure that students…

One of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to make students comfortable with learning in the subjects and guide them to keep on track in their studies. It is more about train students to solve problems rather than telling them answers. 1. My knowledge of mathematics would be a strength for me as I have a bachelor degree…

I believe tutors pass on a sense of confidence to their students as they develop their skills. It is that virtue that students bring back to their classroom ready to apply what they have learned during their tutor's session. Patience is a key value that I possess and that will make me succeed in this role. Acknowledging that different student…

A tutor can guide a student to succeed. Not only in studies, but life in general. If tutors can make students aware of certain things which changes how they operate and that is the greatest thing a tutor can do. I am very patient and understanding. Teaching effectively so that the student can understand the content. It is important to make the students do their own work, rather than doing it for them as they do not learn effectively if the tutor does the work for them. The tutor must also commit to every class and treat every student equally with respect. - My strength are maths and…

One of the most important things when tutoring is to maxmise your effort to help a student in any way possible, without actually doing an assignment/answering the question for them. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to guide them towards the right path in their studies. This may include productive habits such as doing homework or even something as simple as asking for help when they're stuck. Instilling habits like these will enable them to move on their own once they're older. I consider myself to be…

From my point of view, identifying students' ability is most important as the effective learning always occur when they work on the zone of proximal development, the difference between what a learner can do without help, and what they can't do. If both teachers and students work within it, the success is almost guaranteed. I think the students…

I believe that a tutor should be there for a student, to support and answer questions as a means of enriching their understanding. Tutors must have a solid passion to teach, including taking time to understand different ways to teach or provide content, or developing their own skills to allow students to understand a subject. A tutor should aim to see improved results provided the student puts work in to improve. Seeing results can develop encouragement and self-fulfilment…

To engage their student in what they are being taught. Often, it is easy for tutors to treat teaching as a rote-memory recitation of their materials, without actually using other analogies and connective methods that students benefit from. If a tutor is unwilling to invest energy into their lessons, a student likewise will gain little enrichment.…

Inside HomebushTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Saner focused on **Business Studies topics including Operations, Marketing influences, and the Finance syllabus points**, as well as tackling exam-style questions; in Maths, recent lessons covered Networking, Critical Path Analysis, and **revising errors from her last assessment**.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Isaac worked through **essay writing techniques using Deltora Quest as a base text** and explored literary devices such as sensory imagery and personification in both reading and creative writing.

For Year 6, lessons with Mia addressed **analysis of advertisements for class assessment** and understanding different types of humour through targeted homework tasks.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student struggled with consistent revision in Business Studies, often neglecting to create summary notes or complete practice papers; as one tutor observed, "more focus on maths would be ideal," but daily practice was repeatedly missed.

In English for Year 9, reliance on leading questions meant written analysis remained shallow and dependent—prompts were needed even for basic context explanations.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student left lesson tasks unfinished due to overwhelm from other assignments, pushing English work to the last minute. This led to rushed drafts and missed opportunities for feedback before assessment deadlines arrived.

Recent Achievements

A Homebush tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled with critical path analysis now tackling complex business networks independently and even revising content more thoroughly between sessions.

Another high school student, after hesitating to ask for help, is now clearly identifying which maths sections he finds tricky and actively seeks guidance during tutoring.

In Year 5 English, one student who used to give very brief answers is now regularly stating their own opinions about texts and can explain how characters feel in stories.

Last week, that same student wrote out examples of personification without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Strathfield Council Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like The McDonald College.
