To be attentive and to address the students personal needs for growth. The tutor should set an ideal example in terms of behaviour motivation and actions- one which a student should be able to look up to but also resonate with. This allows him to engage with the student at a personal level and provide better more relatable academic support, but…

Any tutor, mentor, educator, or teacher all have something different to offer their students: but the goal is the same and it should be this: to help empower those who can't empower themselves in order to bring forth the best version of that individual into the world. It is through education, knowledge and the reciprocation of knowledge that…

One of the most important things tutor can do for a student is provide them with a lot of feedbacks as well as lots of revision. It is from feedback that students understand where they have been going wrong and how to improve on it. Revision is essential because knowing content is one thing, learning to apply them is another. From experience, I…

The most important thing is to make them our friends so that they can share their difficulties with us. Secondly, a tutor should use creative techniques to make concepts easy to understand. I think that i can make things easy for students to learn. I use innovative ideas to make their study interesting so that they find it more easy to understand…

Inside Horsley ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jay worked through collecting like terms and expanding algebraic expressions, using step-by-step examples to reinforce these new skills.

In Year 10, Emily focused on probability, tackling tree diagrams and interpreting fractions within probability scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Lucas reviewed key concepts in Chemistry Module 7 by exploring different types of alcohols and esters, followed by HSC-style practice questions for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student showed hesitancy in answering maths questions, asking "is this a trick question?" and missing opportunities to build confidence. This uncertainty led to checking answers less often, with small errors slipping through.

In Year 8 science, one learner's notes were spread across multiple books—making it hard to review and consolidate key ideas efficiently.

For a Year 7 student, skipping working out in algebra meant that sign errors went unnoticed; as noted, "failed to recognise where mistakes went wrong due to the lack of working out." Time was then lost retracing steps instead of moving forward confidently.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Horsley Park noticed a big change with one Year 11 student who, after struggling to ask for help before, now regularly asks questions when stuck and even explains her own thought process aloud—something she hadn't done in earlier sessions.

A Year 9 boy recently began attempting tricky probability homework on his own before asking for guidance, showing real initiative instead of waiting for answers.

In Year 5, a student who was previously hesitant with multiplication has started tackling new problems independently and finished all assigned questions early this week without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I'd care to share something with you.  Whilst our son, Jordan has yet of course to complete his HSC and not wishing to tempt fate, his trials are over.  Last year, Y11 he received the award for #1 ranking in general maths.  Unfortunately his teacher moved overseas and let's just say the relationship between him and his new teacher wasn't as before.  His ranking swiftly dropped to sub 15!  To compound matters, 10 students during Y12 dropped down from 'advanced' to 'general' pushing Jordan's overall ranking to sub 20. Then we came to you for help.  Since Jordan has been studying with Suraj his standards steadily began improving once again and we're extremely happy to report that Jordan's overall trial's exam results pushed him up to 4th.  Remember, this included those who dropped down to 'general.'  Now that's a positive outcome.  Naturally, full credit must go to Jordan but without your assistance we would be facing a very different outcome.

Nathan has really put great effort into getting to know Ronan, what makes him tick and where he can get the best out of him.

Everything is going well so far with Georgette and Sophia seems to enjoy the hour she has with her this week.  She appreciates some of the new strategies she has learnt.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wetherill Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marion Catholic Primary School.
