i believe a tutor has to have a solid understanding of all content to provide the best support to a student, has to be patient, must know a range of way to approach a question, and must be readily available to answer questions through online or in person, and a tutor should be friendly and willing to have fun with the lesson so as it doesn't…

The most important thing a tutor can provide I believe is confidence. This is because students' belief in their abilities will provide them with the clear and confident mind necessary to tackle difficult problems. In order to provide this confidence, I believe following a steady pace of teaching with lots of examples is the way. It is also…

You can inspire a student and make him independent. The goal of a teacher (ironically) is to make himself redundant. Being able to develop self-learning skills and teaching oneself by asking right questions is the key process of learning. Eventually, you can master the art of learning itself and you don't need a teacher. I can be very friendly and…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to understand how the student learns. By knowing the students learning preferences and ability the tutor can tailor their approach to individuals rather than utilising a blanket approach, which can often leave some students behind. To not show them the answer straight away. Push the student to understand what they are doing, and use the knowledge that they have learnt to solve the problem. There is no point in getting a question wrong, looking at the answer and saying 'I will do that next time'. It is essential that they can do the questions individually and confidently. I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to never give up on them. Such a tutor, whom is demotivating, doesn't care and has a lack of patience will also cause the student to reflect the same behaviour towards the area of difficulty. The most important role a tutor can play is showing constant and unconditional support for their student. I believe showing this constant support allows the student to trust us as tutors and react more…

Just being a support for the student in question. Now, obviously, the first idea to jump to there is academically, and this is super important, of course, but also school is a naturally difficult time for a lot of students for a large variety of reasons, and even if the tutor nor student realize it, being there to help dealing with it is a massive…

The most important thing which a tutor can do for a student is to make him understand the concept instead of just showing him how to solve the problems. Inside Horsley ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jay worked through collecting like terms and expanding algebraic expressions, using step-by-step examples to reinforce these new skills.

In Year 10, Emily focused on probability, tackling tree diagrams and interpreting fractions within probability scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Lucas reviewed key concepts in Chemistry Module 7 by exploring different types of alcohols and esters, followed by HSC-style practice questions for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student showed hesitancy in answering maths questions, asking "is this a trick question?" and missing opportunities to build confidence. This uncertainty led to checking answers less often, with small errors slipping through.

In Year 8 science, one learner's notes were spread across multiple books—making it hard to review and consolidate key ideas efficiently.

For a Year 7 student, skipping working out in algebra meant that sign errors went unnoticed; as noted, "failed to recognise where mistakes went wrong due to the lack of working out." Time was then lost retracing steps instead of moving forward confidently.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Horsley Park noticed a big change with one Year 11 student who, after struggling to ask for help before, now regularly asks questions when stuck and even explains her own thought process aloud—something she hadn't done in earlier sessions.

A Year 9 boy recently began attempting tricky probability homework on his own before asking for guidance, showing real initiative instead of waiting for answers.

In Year 5, a student who was previously hesitant with multiplication has started tackling new problems independently and finished all assigned questions early this week without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Tabinder has made Leon come a long way in the last 2 weeks and he is quite proud of his achievements.

Dakshi has been a wonderful tutor and if she is available next year we would love to have her back.

My tutoring is going great, Rory is awesome and I'm very happy with the way things are going. Feeling so much better about my maths already.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wetherill Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marion Catholic Primary School.
