I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to believe in the student’s ability and to build their confidence in themselves and their academic ability. To do this, a tutor should tailor their teaching approach to every student. Another important thing tutors can do for their students is to guide the student to develop…

I think the most important job of a tutor is to help the student, not just in answering questions, but by giving them a fundamental understanding of the content that they would be able to reapply to many other questions, particularly ones that are curveballs. Apart from that, giving them the belief that they can do well if they just apply…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is care about them. I believe that once you care about someone you work more towards their goals, helping them in any way that you can and even going out of your way to ensure they achieve their goals and are proud of the accomplishments they have achieved. If a tutor stops caring about their…

The most important things for a tutor is to provide them your trust and support. If you cannot do this, the student won't find you as a reliable and encouraging tutor and therefore, won't get the best out of their learning whilst damaging yourself as a tutor. I am a positive and calm tutor and I think that's an important strength because if a…

Teachers are considered as one of the people who shape someone's future or career. By giving good pieces of advice by basing myself on my personal experience as a student, I'll make sure that the student is always on the right track. I'll try to inspire students regularly by for example talking about awesome stuffs in science and maths which would…

Encouragement and patience. Through personal experience, even if the student improve their score by 1% from their last test, this is enough of an encouragement for them to push harder and let them know you will be their for them anytime when they are stuck or needing help. The most important thing that a tutor can do for the students is helping them improve their academics and achieve the highest goal in their ability. I would like to answer two points which are very important 1. The tutor must understand the feeling of the student so as to understand where he/she is facing problem in the subjects. If you are able to remove the problem you are half way down. 2. If a tutor can make change from students' hate for the subject to love for the subject in my view is…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence. When a student feels supported, understood, and encouraged, they’re more willing to try, ask questions, and grow. A tutor…

In my opinion, apart from imparting educational concepts, tutors play a key role in making students feel more confident about where they stand with their learnings. If a student feels comfortable in knowing that they can take any query or concern to their tutor without fretting, the tutor is successful! My areas of strength are definitely patience…

The most important thing a tutor can do is provide a safe open learning environment where the student is actually comfortable to ask questions. The most crucial things a tutor can do for a student are making learning fun and easy, boosting their curiosity, simplifying tricky stuff, helping them feel confident, guiding them along, and being friendly. Inside HughesdaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Harry revised core trigonometry concepts and completed a past VCE exam under timed conditions.

A Year 10 student focused on matrix arithmetic, working through examples of both multiplication and transformations using visual aids.

For Year 6, Zara practised converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time formats and solved problems involving telling the time on analogue clocks, including interpreting phrases like "quarter to" and "half past."

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student "occasionally skipped through a question and made an error"—not showing all working led to repeated mistakes in algebraic tasks, which slowed progress during revision.

For a Year 10 student revising domain and range, relying mainly on visual memory rather than written notes meant graph interpretation errors lingered.

In English (Year 7), essay writing suffered because ideas weren't clearly organised; as noted, "she needs to follow the essay plan so she stays on topic."

Meanwhile, unfinished homework in both Years 6 and 11 left key gaps unaddressed before tests—especially with simultaneous equations and creative writing tasks.

Recent Achievements

A Hughesdale tutor noticed a big shift with one Year 9 student who used to guess at equations but now talks through her reasoning out loud and checks her work before moving on.

In a senior maths session, a Year 11 boy who'd previously struggled with polynomial long division was able to tackle an application problem without any prompting by the end of the lesson.

Meanwhile, one younger student in Year 4 completed all her homework and even took on some extra-challenging extension questions she would have avoided just weeks ago, finishing them without needing help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Oakleigh Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Oakleigh Grammar.
