Local Reviews

My son and myself are greatly satisfied with the work that Jacqualine is putting forth to my son Tyler, he looks forward to every session. Jacqueline is professional, explains the following subjects until my son grasps on but also makes learning enjoyable. Not only myself by Tyler's teacher has seen an improvement with his confidence when completing a math's task at school. I believe we are in the process of having Tyler's teacher also liaise with Jacqueline to make this process a easier transition.

Inside Humbug ScrubTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Dominic worked on identifying factors and multiples, including finding highest common factors and lowest common multiples, as well as exploring prime numbers using number lists.

In Year 10, Georgia focused on solving simultaneous linear equations both graphically and algebraically, also practising how to use a graphic calculator for these solutions.

For Year 11, James tackled problems involving fractional exponents and surds, alongside applying exponent rules to simplify algebraic expressions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4 mathematics, a student struggled to automatically recall basic number facts and sometimes left homework on prime numbers incomplete, as noted: "did not answer all questions in the set."

In a Year 8 algebra session, working was skipped in multi-step problems; this led to hidden errors—"he jumped straight to answers when expanding brackets."

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student avoided writing out steps for worded percentage questions, preferring mental calculations but missing key details. The result: time lost retracing logic and difficulty identifying specific misunderstandings during review.

Recent Achievements

Dominic has started to ask more questions and actively join discussions after initially being quiet and hesitant. He now even volunteers to try fraction problems while the tutor observes.

Abigail has begun tackling probability rules and simultaneous equations with less prompting than before; she's making connections faster and clarifies her own misunderstandings out loud.

A younger student who previously mixed up digit values was able to confidently read five-digit numbers without pausing or second-guessing.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thank you for your e-mail.  I have spoken to Wen from the beginning about how he finds the tutoring with Charles.  Wen advised that he is happy with Charles as Charles is very kind and very understanding tutor. Wen said Charles communicate with ease and that makes it easier for Wen to understand.  Wen said he likes that Charles teaches him the faster and straight forward methods as it is less confusing.  Wen said he has been attempting harder questions with Charles which in turn gives him more confidence to attempt them.

We are very happy with Harriet , thanks. Mikayla has found it very easy to relate to her , and Harriet is always approachable and responsive. As it has only been a couple of weeks and is now school holidays , we haven't got any school results to go on however I am sure we will start to see results in this area. We had a negative experience with tutoring in the past (different organisation) , so we were reluctant to go down this path again , however I think we will have success with Harriet.

I thought our tutor was very good, and was very happy with the professionalism. Many thanks Keep up the good work.,
