I believe tutoring can assist in this and allow students to perform to the best ability. I am a very communicative and patient person. Know your stuff. Always. As simple as it might sound, really bringing your students a reliable foundation of knowledge on the subject is always crucial. It doesn't mean that you ALWAYS have to know your stuff though, we are human, and human can sometimes afford not to know it all. This is when I would go on, do my research, and make sure the next…

I think that an english tutor must be patient and remain composed with each student. A tutor is meant to be that person whose teaching is tailored, so it requires an individualized approach, picked up and constantly adjusted as needs change and develop. I have (as told to me by all my ever-suffering associates) a 'wild' vocabulary, and for English…

Besides helping them understand and learn a topic, the tutor should also help the student master the topic through mastery learning. Mastery learning is a way of designing units of work so that each set of tasks focuses on a particular learning objective and students must master a task to move onto the next one. The tutor should also help the…

Expanding on what I have written earlier, I think that one of the most important things an english tutor can do for a student is be prepared, and always willing to learn. I think this requires being a bit humble, and accepting that, even with something that may appear to be far below the tutor's learning, there may still be things that aren't…

I believe the most powerful way an english tutor can aid a student is by giving them confidence. More than often, students can show more vulnerability in a one-on-one session than in a classroom surrounded by their peers, and so the best thing I can do is use these private sessions to impart confidence in the students by making them see ways they…

A tutor can tailor instruction to meet the specific needs, learning style, and pace of the student. Moreover, students can help students understand complex concepts by providing clear explanations, examples, and demonstrations. The most important things I can do for a student, is to put myself in their shoes when teaching. Often some students take longer to understand, comprehend or apply the knowledge taught. I believe that an english tutor should be able to build relationships with a student where the students are provided with an environment where they are heard and observed. I think this allows tutors to strategize methods in helping students progress, learn and succeed. This must be done with patience, constant assessment of student's progress, and…

I believe there are several things a tutor can deliver to her students, the primary of which is to instill a sense of confidence and can-do attitude among them. A tutor can be a guiding light for students. Each student has their own way of absorbing the information that they are taught. This might not always be available to students in a large classroom setting. A good tutor recognizes the strengths and weaknesses of the students and guides them accordingly. I spent most of my adult life abroad as a…

Irene

Inside Hyde ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ella worked through challenging algebra problems, including real-life applications, and reviewed strategies for structuring persuasive writing tasks.

A Year 7 student focused on collecting like terms in algebraic expressions and practiced expanding brackets using both positive and negative values.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student revised long division and place value by completing school-assigned homework on dividing by two-digit numbers and identifying multiples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student, while working through trigonometry and natural logarithms, hesitated to attempt questions without her notes—she needed some prompting in order to make certain connections, one tutor observed—showing a reliance on support rather than independent recall.

In Year 8 algebra sessions, messy layout and skipping clear steps made it difficult to trace errors when negative numbers were involved.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student avoided writing out multiplication work, relying on mental calculation but making frequent mistakes with larger numbers. This led to repeated confusion during worded problems where structured working would have clarified each step.

Recent Achievements

One Hyde Park tutor noticed a Year 11 student who, after struggling with algebraic isolation in the past, now confidently tackles equations without hesitation and explains her thinking out loud.

In Year 9 English, a student started swapping out basic words for more sophisticated synonyms in her writing tasks—something she'd previously avoided—and now asks if she's chosen the right ones instead of waiting for corrections.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who used to need constant prompting has begun finishing number pattern questions independently, pausing only to double-check her answers before moving on herself.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Hi everyone. i am a former tutor at Ezy Math Tutoring. I worked as a tutor while enrolled as a student at the University of Wollongong. The selection process for entering the EzyMath Tutoring team was meticulous and involved a written exam as well as an interview. I can honestly say that the recruitment staff at EzyMath Tutoring team takes utmost care to select only the best candidates who have proven record in mathematics. EzyMath Tutoring gave me a wonderful opportunity to coach younger students not only in the subject of Mathematics but also Chemistry, Biology and Physics. The fortnightly Continuous Education Program (CEP) modules helped me become not only a better tutor but also a better student. The modules on self-belief, the different types of learning styles were interesting, intriguing and informative. EzyMath Tutoring has my highest recommendations for prospective tutors as well as prospective clients. 18th August 2012

Angelica has greatly improved her understanding  of  Maths  since her tuition and we are very grateful for that. We have been very happy with the tutoring service.

Yes she certainly got a lot out of it. Ben is s terrific, gentle teacher who was just the right person for her.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Unley Civic Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Thomas' School.
