A tutor should firstly be encouraging; to be more confident in their studies, for them to work hard and try their best, and to inspire a love of learning. Secondly, it is imperative to be understanding. Every student is unique, with varying goals, learning styles, and abilities, so learning should be tailored to each individual to ensure every…

Psychology Tutor
I aim to instil students with effective learning strategies. People aren’t taught how to effectively learn and study, and often they can feel lost. I firmly believe that understanding the best learning approach for oneself is just as important as understanding the schoolwork. I pride myself on being patient - I understand that everyone learns…

Inside IlukaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student CJ worked on decimal addition and subtraction, including real-world money problems, and practised ordering decimals to build confidence with place value.

For Year 5, Farrah focused on persuasive writing structure as well as editing for grammar in her drafts.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Channing tackled algebraic fractions—simplifying and performing operations—and revised scientific notation using worked examples to consolidate understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student with strong math intuition often forgot key steps in converting improper fractions during revision, as she momentarily forgot how to convert an improper fraction into a mixed number.

In English for Year 5, messy written work and skipped re-reading led to missing basic punctuation like full stops or commas—mistakes she recognized only after they were pointed out.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student hesitated to start narrative writing due to self-doubt, causing delays and incomplete paragraphs.

In each case, avoiding regular review or double-checking left gaps that resurfaced under pressure or in unfamiliar tasks.

Recent Achievements

One Iluka tutor noticed a Year 9 student, Channing, who used to hand in his writing without checking, is now in the habit of reviewing his work for errors and actively uses process-of-elimination strategies during NAPLAN-style questions—something he rarely did before.

Meanwhile, Farrah (Year 10) has gone from hesitating at the start of narrative writing tasks to drafting introductions quickly and using her own checklist to add descriptive language and similes, making her stories more engaging.

A younger student recently started explaining decimal place values out loud after previously struggling to remember tenths and hundredths.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Ayon has been a wonderful tutor for Connor and he now feels that he is coping very well with his journey into HSC. He has learnt a lot with his tutor and is now studying hard with a lot more understanding. I would like to thank you.

We are very happy with Michael and Caroline's confidence has already improved thanks to his support.

Madison has now had two sessions with Emma, they seem to be going well, Emma is very personable, has been working on some practice sheets with Madison for an upcoming maths test.  All seems well so far.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Joondalup Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Francis Jordan Catholic School.
