I understand that not every child has the same potential. As a tutor, I am obligated to understand the struggles and pace of each student to achieve team success. The most important thing a tutor can do for the students is to celebrate their successes, no matter how small, and encourage them to persevere through challenges with a positive…

Aside from helping students improve on their grades, I hope to inculcate values in my students. I hope to cultivate resilience in my students by letting them try, and not giving up when faced with tough problems. This is particularly important in Mathematics where students will encounter questions that may faze them. I am an understanding tutor…

1. Be patient to students. Sometimes tutor need to explain a concept or questions multiple times to students until they understand it. So patience is very important. 2. Tutor should motivate students to exercise. Exercise is very important for students. It can help students know how to use the concept. 3. Tutor can help student build a good way…

The most important thing that can be done is to give as many resources as necessary. I say this because of all the tutors I have had, the most helpful was the one that gave me access to endless resources which constantly had me practicing my content which greatly assisted me in realising my weaknesses. Another important factor would be to be as…

I think the most important thing is to adhere to the students needs and their form of learning. If a student is more of a visual learner then I would adapt my teaching style to suit them. I also feel that being available after class hours for queries and concerns is vital but also be able to provide guidance and a good role model not only…

I think the best thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach him different things while motivating the student and making sure he/she/they understand the essence of the teaching so that they can apply it in daily life rather than asking them to memorize different things. This way the students not only get good grades but also store whatever…

Amidst the competitive pressure of institutions on this generation's children, one of the vital things a tutor can do for a fellow student is to provide a safe space for them to be able to express themselves, i.e allowing them to ask questions and understand the weaknesses of their students. That way they will be enthusiastic to learn from their…

The best thing a tutor can provide their student is to give them the guidance and inspiration so as to spark a curiosity to want to learn more about the subject without any external guidance. A tutor should be able to build confidence for a student in a subject that is not their strongest. By building this confidence, students can go into exams with a clear understanding of the subject. For the student’s future, the confidence from succeeding in a subject can flow into other aspects of their lives, allowing them to help others. I am…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand them. The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence and develop their independent study skills. This involves creating a supportive learning environment, providing personalised learning materials, and encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Lastly, also be able to empathise with the student, to…

I believe the best thing I can teach a student is the ability to think critically and for themselves. Rather than giving them the answer, I would show them how to get to an answer so they become independent and self-sufficient over time. Patience and empathy. Believe that the student can succeed in the subject no matter their current grades, and to instil that belief in the child as well. Creating a wanting to learn. No child will improve grades if they do not want to learn and that comes from my own personal experience. In my point of view, the most important part of tutoring is to simplify topics and make them easy for students to understand. I always try to match my teaching style to each student’s way of learning. I use clear speech and body language to make sure they stay interested. A tutor needs to be reminded that it's their student they have to make better, not themselves, hence most of the time we should end up giving tasks to students and let them solve them themselves. Only to interrupt them when they are stuck or can't get over a problem, we should remember that we are more of assistants rather than problem solvers…

Inside InglewoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Angus focused on determining missing angles within geometric structures and calculating amounts given ratios.

For Year 8, Sienna worked through solving equations and revising key algebra skills like expanding and factorising expressions, using practice questions to build confidence.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Jacob tackled finding the area and perimeter of composite shapes as well as converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages to strengthen both geometry and numeracy foundations.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, homework was sometimes incomplete or missing key working—one tutor noted, "there was no working shown," which made it hard to check understanding of equations.

During a Year 10 geometry session, tiredness led to minimal progress and several questions were left unattempted when confusion arose, rather than trying best reasoning.

Messy handwriting also became an obstacle in algebra tasks: on one occasion, unclear layout meant previous steps couldn't be interpreted correctly during review.

In Year 7 probability work, careless notation on tree diagrams resulted in incorrect outcomes being recorded and misinterpretation later in revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Inglewood tutor noticed a real shift in a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask for help—before an upcoming test, he now clearly communicated what topics needed revision and even requested specific notes for study.

A Year 8 student, after struggling with breaking shapes into parts for area calculations, began independently tackling complex problems once the process clicked.

Meanwhile, a younger student who used to dislike tessellation not only completed challenging textbook exercises but also admitted the practice was starting to make sense—she finished the session able to explain her answers out loud without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Inglewood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Inglewood Primary School.
