Science Tutor Garran, ACT
Through my time at university, I have found the ability to be patient is what separates my current tutors apart. A willingness to stop and answer questions, that some may be too scared to ask, has certainly improved my learning opportunities. The notion of ‘no stupid questions’ in my Power Electronics course this semester has been a great…

Help them to grow in their strengths and to encourage them to reach their potential in the subject. To teach them to be teachable and to teach others. I like the phrase that “each one teaches oneâ€. I may start to teach them but one day I hope the student is able to teach another the same skill. I am patient and am good at breaking down a…

Local Reviews

Keertana is by far the best tutor I had, way better than James An. Learning. She is very patient and has a way of explaining math principles. I have developed much more confidence now that she is guiding me with my maths journey..

Inside Isabella PlainsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Riley worked on Pythagoras' Theorem and applied basic algebra skills to worded problems.

In Year 9, Jack practised solving quadratic equations both by factorising and using the quadratic formula.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Priya tackled compound and simple interest calculations in consumer arithmetic, as well as strategies for managing percentage-based financial questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 maths, revision for upcoming exams was limited by a lack of independent study between sessions; as noted, "Jay hadn't done any extra revision for her exam since the last session." This led to weaker recall on older topics.

A Year 9 student's working was often messy when tackling word-based problems, making it hard to track mistakes and review steps.

In English (Year 8), essay planning sometimes faltered because ideas weren't clearly organised into paragraphs—key analysis was missing as a result.

In primary maths, one student completed most homework incorrectly at home but solved questions correctly in-person, showing reliance on immediate support over self-checking.

Recent Achievements

One Isabella Plains tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously hesitated to ask questions now actively requesting clarification when simultaneous equations didn't make sense, leading to real breakthroughs in class.

In a recent high school session, another student who started off nervous about algebra began speaking up more as the lesson progressed and tackled challenging problems independently with much less prompting than before.

Meanwhile, a primary student mastered using a protractor for measuring angles—after weeks of uncertainty, she can now handle any angle question independently and explains her reasoning out loud as she works.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

So far so good. The kids are actually enjoying their time with Agnes so that's s good sign. Jaren came out of last weeks tutorial session saying "well you learn something new everyday". It just gives them more confidence with mathematical concepts, I think they're getting something out of it. Thank you.

Sofia was progressing and Sofia was very comfortable with the tutor. She gave Sofia a lot of help and her understanding of maths had improved and she learned to enjoyed maths, even the homework set and that surprised me. Thank you again.

Chelsea loves Melanie as her tutor. She is a great tutor, smart, very friendly, and very patient. She has all the quality as a tutor and we did like the way she taught Chelsea. Thank you so much for giving Chelsea the best tutor, we are happy with everything.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Erindale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Isabella Plains Early Childhood School.
