The most important things a tutor can do are grow to understand the student so they can best help them. I think that if the tutor understands a student, if they have a strong rapport then they can identify a student's weak and strong points and work to solidify their strengths and mitigate their weaknesses. Although I have no formal tutoring…

I believe if I can make a difference in the student's life such that they are at a better place from when I began teaching them and If I am actually able to see quantifiable results. Then it's really a win win for the both of us. I have very good foundational knowledge on things I prepare to teach. I have very good communication skills which makes…

Inside IslingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Tyler worked through addition and subtraction of decimals and fractions, practiced rounding numbers, and prepared for a grading exam by tackling multiplying decimals using his school maths booklet.

For Year 11, Erika reviewed normal distribution concepts including Z-scores and percentages, then moved into financial mathematics topics like compound interest and depreciation, along with practice drawing non-linear graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 12 Chloe focused on advanced financial maths such as shares and dividends, reducing balance loans, and declining balance depreciation, also addressing graph interpretation within bivariate data.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student's maths workbook was "a little more organised and tidy" than before, but messy layout still made it hard to follow calculations—especially in long division and multi-digit decimal multiplication.

In senior years, a Year 11 student's study notes lacked dates and structure, with only an hour of revision each week; as one tutor observed, this led to confusion when tracking gaps in Financial Maths and Bivariate Data.

Another senior student struggled to complete assigned homework on time due to difficulty focusing outside sessions, which meant practice with non-right angle trigonometry remained incomplete before quizzes.

Recent Achievements

One Islington tutor noticed Jackson, a Year 12 student, now approaches complex calculus and algebra questions with far less hesitation—recently, he tackled challenging practice problems independently and explained his reasoning out loud, something he previously avoided.

In another session, Erika (Year 11) showed a marked shift in engagement: she confidently asked for clarification on DNA replication during biology revision instead of quietly skipping difficult points as before.

Meanwhile, Chloe in Year 8 completed her entire science assessment without assistance for the first time this term, especially excelling at re-drawing graphs to improve clarity in her written responses.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We have been extremely happy with your service and in particular the professionalism and help Jordan received from Suraj.  Cannot endorse Suraj enough.

Thanks you for your email.  We have been very happy with everything.  Reagan has been great with our son Jack and been a huge help to him over the past months.  Jack has pretty much finished for the year now having completed his end of year exams.  As he is year 12 we won't be requiring assistance next year.  We have two other children and would certainly use your tutoring services again if required.

We are very happy with the tutoring so far. Ben has gained some confidence in the past couple of weeks. Robert is great.. explains things in a way that Ben can easily understand.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hamilton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Islington Public School.
