The most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is to remember their position when they were at their student's age, the difficulties they faced while learning and sharing their experiences with passion to their students so they do not have to face such difficulties while learning. My strengths which may be beneficial as a tutor are…

The most important thing is approaching the task not simply as a series of questions to be answered, but instead as a dive into the nature of what is being learned and its applications to the world, which fosters a much greater depth of understanding and encourages curiosity above all else. I do not have a standard technique for learning that…

The learning space is the most impactful factor for a student's capacity to learn. If they don't feel safe or they don't feel encouraged, they can lose interest and/or disengage. Maintaining this space is the most important thing a maths tutor or teacher can do for their students. This takes the form of a number of things; the words and tone of…

To teach them to think intensively and critically so that they can learn independently in the future. In year 11 I was tutored in mathematics and so I understand the difficulty in learning new and unfamiliar topics. That experience will allow me to relate to the person I am tutoring, which will create a better learning experience for the…

Inside JeebropillyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Emily focused on overtime pay and penalty rates, along with reviewing her PSMT assessment and practicing order of operations using visual strategies.

In Year 9, Alex worked through simultaneous equations and practiced interpreting box & whisker plots while also exploring bearings and fractions in context.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Daniel concentrated on compound interest calculations and surface area problems, integrating matrices into revision exercises to strengthen understanding for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Mathematics, note-taking was inconsistent—on multiple occasions, Emily either left her notebook in class or summarized too little when no new maths content was covered, which made later revision more challenging ("I had to keep checking that she is recording these").

During Year 11 exam preparation, a lack of autonomous working showed: unfinished homework and difficulty recalling key formulas led to repeated errors in algebra tasks.

In upper primary (Year 6), forgetting foundational multiplication tables slowed progress with fractions and averages. Missed notes and incomplete revision left gaps that became apparent under test conditions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Jeebropilly recently noticed Emily, a Year 11 student, begin to tackle algebra with far more independence—where she once hesitated or waited for help, she now attempts complex problems on her own and even double-checks her work for errors.

In another high school session, Ivy started asking clarifying questions about trigonometry instead of just following along silently; this shift means she's more willing to engage when confused rather than stay stuck.

For a younger student, writing out learning techniques helped her persist through tricky maths tasks without giving up early—she finished the worksheet despite initial frustration.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Jack and Justin are getting along well. Jack seems to have to continued to improve since Justin started tutoring.

David did come over yesterday for a lesson with Kyle. Like you mentioned, he is a diligent and competent tutor with experience in teaching. He did put in a lot of effort even before he arrived to make sure he knew what he was dealing with. I am very happy and impressed with his teaching. Just wish we had found him earlier!

Carolina likes Deeba, whom she says is a gifted teacher, & continues to learn at what is to me an amazing rate.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ipswich Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Walloon State School.
