A tutor can change the perspective of a student regarding any subject. The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to understand the student's capacity and design a curriculum that fits their learning capabilities. The first and most imperative task for a physics tutor is to make your students passionate about what you are teaching or at the very least, identify the benefits of the service you are providing. From my own personal experience as both a student and a tutor, I am aware that it is extremely difficult to learn if you are not motivated to learn in…

I consider creating strong fundamentals for a student in whatever field they are studying is the most important thing for a physics tutor to a student. If a student has learnt the subject to beyond the scope and understands it as well as me, I believe they are well prepared to succeed in the future. I believe I can understand the person I am…

I think the most important things a physics tutor can do for the student is guide them and encourage them. I think my strengths as a tutor is my patience and communication. - A tutor needs to be able to guide the students into considering the application of what they are learning and being able to provide them with the support that they need. I personally consider the interactive and "adaptive" aspects of being a physics tutor to be the most important things a tutor can do for their student. In my opinion, keeping the student engaged, such as through mini breaks or games between long sessions of work, is the most effective way of teaching them in a fun, yet informative manner.…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to help them learn content rather than simply absorb it. Often students will try to memorise content and methods of problem solving rather than actually understanding why and how to use those methods. If a tutor can help a student adequately understand their studies, I believe the…

Inside Junction VillageTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student James practised structuring TEEL paragraphs for English assignments and reviewed expectations for Year 7 content.

In Year 10, Emily focused on solving linear equations from her recent school test and worked on drawing linear graphs, including finding x- and y-intercepts using graphing methods.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student revised statistics topics such as interpreting box plots and tackled probability questions from the textbook to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student struggled to keep written calculations organized in algebra, with a tutor noting, "her maths layout makes it hard to spot where she went wrong." This disorganization slowed down error correction during lessons.

In Year 3 grammar, another student often left homework incomplete, so progress on conjunctions and prepositions stalled between sessions.

A VCE student preparing for SACs was reluctant to create a bound reference, making revision less effective.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 found it difficult to retain new maths content because practice questions were left unfinished each week—leading to repeated confusion over previously covered material.

Recent Achievements

One Junction Village tutor noticed Ishan could now write a full TEEL paragraph from just a prompt and independently pick out visual images based on written descriptions—something he struggled with before.

In another session, Riley, also in high school, was able to recall key points from previous lessons and confidently apply BODMAS rules without hesitation, showing more initiative during problem-solving than last term.

Meanwhile, an upper primary student who used to quietly guess when unsure has started openly asking for help whenever she's confused, most recently raising her hand after stumbling over multiplication tables.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Freya and Lidia get on really well, Lidia is gentle, firm and positive all at the same time which works well for Freya. Freya's confidence is growing already and she did better in her last weekly maths test than she usually does which was a boost for her confidence.

Ranul has been fantastic. Ava seems to have really taken a liking to him which helps!

Matthew has become much happier to talk & often inform us about math problems & the confidence he has gained even at this early stage of being tutored is huge. Andrew has been a tremendous help so far.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cranbourne Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lighthouse Christian College Cranbourne.
