In order to help students achieve their highest potential tutors should adapt and create new engaging ways of teaching the subject to make the student feel confident and have fun while learning it. The most important things a tutor can do is to understand how their student learns, be knowledgeable on the subject, and above all try. Understanding the subject matter is important but if there is no effort to adapt to the student then it is usually a waste of time. I am flexible around teaching styles and explanations of concepts. I can assist…

I think it is to listen and understand a student, and try their best to indentify what is best for them. A tutor should be emotionally supportive, and help students believe in their potential. It may be that I understand what it feels like to not be able to do or not understand something. I can empathise with students about how difficult learning…

I strongly believe all students learn differently and have their own unique study methods, therefore it is important for a tutor to adjust to the student's needs and personalise the study session. However, I also consider it useful that tutors help develop new study habits and introduce new ways to learn whilst tutoring in a way that the student…

Getting the student to the other side of the crossing in most often not the purpose in tutoring, but teaching them to swim and cross on their own is. First of all, it is the responsibilty of a tutor to fulfil his course requirements professionally and in such a way so as to not only develop an understanding of the concepts taught, but also inculcate critical thinking to analyse the taught concepts. Secondly, students are the future of any nation. Teaching good behavior and respect for others in…

Acoording to me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make a positive impact on his life by not forcing the society standards for learning and growing as every child has a different mind and way of approach to things around them. I strongly believe that these 3 are the most important things a tutor can do for their student. 1. Guidance: This is the first reason why parents send their kids to tutor, not just to have good grades but to have proper guidance and a system when it comes to dealing with their studies. 2. Connection: There is no greater way to help these kids…

Local Reviews

Eli is doing so well with Filip. Yesterday was only his third lesson with but he already feels like Filip understood the areas which need attention and he helps him to understand the questions better. He now looks forward to his tutoring lessons, which he was def not keen about at the start. Thank you so much for your help and we look forward to continuing our lessons with Filip.

Inside KalingaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alex focused on simplifying fractions and finding highest common factors, then tackled percentage word problems involving ratios.

For Year 10, Jackson reviewed the cosine rule and practiced graphing exponential functions, also reinforcing power and index laws using variables in algebraic contexts.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Priya concentrated on identifying turning points and intercepts when graphing quadratics, using step-by-step worked examples to deepen her understanding of these key features.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, a student hesitated to write full working for complex rearrangements, which sometimes hid calculation slips—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors.

For a Year 11 calculus assignment, feedback from the draft was not always implemented; small errors recurred even after comments were given.

In Year 7, confidence issues with mental arithmetic led to second-guessing and slowed progress during worded problem tasks.

Meanwhile, a primary student often forgot key parts of multi-step questions in number patterns until prompted to re-read instructions. This left gaps in answers that only became obvious at review.

Recent Achievements

One Kalinga tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to guess through multiple-choice maths problems now pausing to cross out obviously wrong answers, narrowing down her choices and explaining her thinking aloud.

A Year 12 student who struggled with rearranging complex equations in physics began independently switching between variables and even anticipated how to revolve an area between two curves before it was formally introduced—showing new initiative.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student grasped fraction operations so well after one explanation that she confidently completed the next set of questions without hesitation or extra help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nundah Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Eagle Junction State School.
