A tutor can provide much greater flexibility than a teacher in a class room setting. They can identify the specific strengths and weaknesses of a student and cater to them to make the most beneficial learning experience they can. I like to break down mathematical concepts and remove as much of the distracting mathematical language as I can, so…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to inspire them through support. Always being optimistic with a student's progress can help them gain confidence in the subject they are studying and they may find comfort in the knowledge that their tuition teacher is there to help them. This may change a student's view on their…

A tutor can guide a student, by outlining what their goals should be at the end of the learning the subject and how to get there. They can set them worksheets to complete and notes to further understand the subject. Most of all, I think as a tutor, the most important think is to give constructive feedback, and to let students know their areas of…

The most important thing is to inspire students and academic results would naturally come. A sound understanding of the specific area of study that the students are trying to learning together with the tutor's personality to let them be inspired. The ultimate result is that they can explore their individuality and talent to a maximum in order to…

For a student, the worst thing a tutor can do is to strike fear into them about their progress or their work. I consider a tutor's job to support the student in every way: academically, physically, and psychologically. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with realistic hopes: to stand from our perspectives and…

It is important that a tutor is able to give their students more confidence in their abilities and to improve their overall understanding of the subject. I have the ability to get along with students of all ages as well as a genuine interest in trying to help people improve and a love of teaching. I have also completed my VCE in 2017, achieving an…

The best thing my methods tutor did for me in year 12 was by far to cut out the crap and stretched analogies. To learn things simply for what they are. By understanding principles in a simple and raw way, the originally complex problems were solved at a glance, leaving only the problem of writing down the working I had already seen in my mind. …

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is to believe in them. When a child's role model believes in them they begin to believe in themselves and, I believe, that is the first step to accomplishing great things. If a child believes that they have the ability to do something they are more inclined to put more effort…

I think that a tutor must be able to alter the way they teach to personalise the learning experience for the student as different students will receive and reflect upon information in a unique manner. The tutor should aim to recognise a student's traits and utilise the student's strengths and weaknesses to ensure they are able to improve and…

Inside Kangaroo GroundTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Shaan worked on consolidating fractions and decimals, using visual models to clarify tricky parts.

For Year 8, Noah reviewed linear equations and practiced interpreting different types of algebraic expressions from recent classwork.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Emily tackled probability concepts by solving worded problems and also revised Pythagoras' theorem through targeted practice questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student tackling worded algebra questions often missed multi-part instructions—"she answered only the first part of two-step problems," as noted—which meant incomplete solutions even when her calculations were correct.

In Year 10, a student preparing for geometry tests left key formula notes unfinished, making it harder to apply methods consistently across topics like area and composite shapes.

Meanwhile, a senior student in Year 12 encountered time pressure during probability tests; the rush to finish led to skipped notations and missed marks.

After setbacks like these, confidence noticeably dipped during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Kangaroo Ground tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who used to get stuck on algebraic equations—after revisiting earlier mistakes, she now tackles the majority of algebra problems without prompting and outlines where her errors are.

Another high schooler, who had previously hesitated to ask for clarification, has started raising specific questions about tricky geometry tasks during sessions, leading to clearer understanding of angles and composite shapes.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who struggled with spelling is now catching subtle errors independently in his homework and confidently inferring correct spellings for unfamiliar words.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I have used other tutors and tutor services in the past however the difference with ezymath was that I received regular reports on how my son was progressing and also tips and tools to enhance his learning.  The tutoring is very structured and also disciplined which kept my son on track.  Yesterday we received his year 9 Naplan results and he achieved a Band 10, and his results last semester at school were excellent and his confidence and ability has improved immensely  , many thanks to ezymath and his fantastic tutor.

Ezy Math tutoring gave me an invaluable opportunity and experience. With fortnightly advice, support and materials I was able to give my all to my students. The reward being an invaluable satisfaction when the mother heard from my students' teacher that her work was really improving. I really enjoyed the experience and always left the students feeling like I had made a change. For prospective tutors I would say Ezy Maths is a great place to work, they provide plenty of materials, support and the staff are very co-operative and understanding about your needs

Matt was excellent, he helped Josh immensely. I only wish we had started earlier. I now know who to come to for my other two children. Thank you.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Warrandyte Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kangaroo Ground Primary School.
