I believe that tutoring for a student should be a safe zone space where they can make mistakes. Tutoring does not have the same pressue for a student that school can, as such it is important for a tutor to be patient and adaptive when a student is struggling with a concept. A tutor should welcome mistakes as an opportunity to grow. I also believe…

As above, affirming their limitations JUST AS MUCH as their strengths - affirm, affirm, affirm! I believe the most fundamental truth is found in admitting and celebrating weakness. I would prioritise my strengths as: - enthusiasm - pedantic attention to detail - strong synthesising skills and understanding across a wide range of…

Inside KarrabinTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Emily worked through PSMT assessment tasks, focusing on interpreting overtime pay and penalty rates, as well as reviewing order of operations with a focus on visualizing multi-step calculations.

In Year 10, Alex practiced simultaneous equations and box-and-whisker plots before tackling bearings and compound interest problems using real-world examples.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sienna concentrated on bivariate statistics for her PSMT project by analyzing scatter plots and least squares regression lines, utilizing Excel to support her data predictions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, a missed opportunity stood out when Emily left her notebook in class—notes couldn't be checked and vital revision material was lost.

A Year 11 session revealed that, after an exam, she "needed to take time to reflect on the test," but struggled to review errors independently without guidance.

In Year 10 algebra lessons, skipped or incomplete notes made it harder for her to recall formulas and apply them under pressure.

During PSMT assessments in senior years, reliance on verbal explanation rather than written working meant ideas weren't always fully captured—leading to confusion during revision.

Recent Achievements

One Karrabin tutoring session saw a Year 11 student, after months of finding algebra intimidating, begin to tackle problems independently and even express curiosity about more advanced concepts.

Another high schooler has shifted from silently guessing answers to confidently talking through tricky math questions out loud, using correct terminology—something she previously avoided.

In the primary years, one student who used to rush and make frequent errors now double-checks her work for mistakes before moving on.

Most recently, a Year 11 student solved compound interest questions without prompts and explained each step clearly to the tutor.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

we are very pleased with the tutoring sessions Mario is providing. His tutoring has made a significant improvement to our daughters maths grades and has helped to increase our daughter's confidence with maths which she struggled with previously. He is also very patient, polite and punctual.

Definitely i would say that Lamia is a great Tutor and is tutoring Krintel really well, she is quite comfortable with Lamia and is surely getting support from her which she has been waiting for. Thanks once again for introducing Lamia to us.

So far so good. The kids are actually enjoying their time with Agnes so that's s good sign. Jaren came out of last weeks tutorial session saying "well you learn something new everyday". It just gives them more confidence with mathematical concepts, I think they're getting something out of it. Thank you.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ipswich Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like West Moreton Anglican College.
