I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide clarity, build confidence, and foster independent thinking. First, offering clear explanations and breaking down complex concepts helps students understand the material more deeply. Second, encouraging and supporting students helps build their confidence, which is…

Listen to their ideas and help them realise how they can be moulded to fit the criteria that is set for them to meet. This is also coming from my own perspective of what I'd expect, as most times teachers impose their ideas on students and they are left alone to not be able to think for themselves. I can explain concepts quite well, and I make…

The most significant things that a tutor can do for a student is having a friendly relationship, being adaptive, patient and communicating clearly and concisely. Few viable things which a tutor can do to help the students are: a) Deliver to them motivational thoughts and constantly encouraging them to do well. b) Critically thinking about any difficulty which might pose a hurdle in the pathway of student's learning and bring-forth ways to mitigate it. As a tutor, I believe to have the following…

Most importantly, a tutor…

A tutor\'s first duty must be to create a comfortable environment for the student to learn. This means serving as a friend, and as someone who is receptive and understanding to the needs of the student. It is through this that students will grow and be most efficient in their studies. A tutor should provide guidance and assistance at all costs for the student they are teaching. It is the tutors responsibility to do the best they can in order to help the student reach their potential. A tutor should sometimes take a step further to care for the student and a lot of the times the student will reciprocate your effort to create a…

A tutor can help a student to gain confidence. Usually students lose confidence and thus lose interest in a subject. Mathematics, being really important for career opportunities, is an interesting subject, we just need the right support at the right time and that's what tutors are there for. Explain. If a tutor can explain a concept in a way a student can understand and then is able to remember it and be able to apply it, the tutor has succeeded in his role. Also being able to listen to students, as a tutor should be able to find small mistakes and correct them as questions require perfection to some degree to achieve maximum marks.…

We signed up with a tutor who didn't work out and the EzyMath team worked hard to find us a new one as fast a possible. Their communication during the process was great and they kept me informed about how they were going to find the right tutor for my child.
Kim, Kellyville

Inside KellyvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Sofia focused on indices, scientific notation, and significant figures, as well as financial maths applications through targeted textbook problems.

In Year 9, Riaan worked on factorising and expanding quadratics and deepened his understanding of trigonometric functions by applying them to worded problems and geometry questions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Olivia practised calculating the distance and midpoint of a line segment and explored bivariate data concepts including correlation and constructing frequency histograms.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student's written work lacked clear structure, making it difficult to spot errors in factorising non-monic quadratics—he skipped showing steps in expanding (a-b)², which hid sign mistakes.

For a Year 10 student revising for exams, revision focused mainly on familiar index laws while harder questions were left undone; this meant the leap to complex surds and log rules was unsteady.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 English, a strong plan didn't translate into organised paragraphs when writing independently, with ideas drifting off-topic. The hesitation led to frustration as completed drafts felt disconnected from initial outlines.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Kellyville recently saw Keenan achieve a big turnaround: after previously lower marks, he scored 80 and 76 percent in his latest exams, showing much stronger understanding and fewer "silly mistakes."

In Year 10 maths, one student who used to get stuck on harder quadratic equations can now solve them confidently—even using the quadratic formula independently. Meanwhile, a primary student who often rushed through writing tasks began noticing and correcting spelling errors on his own as he wrote, instead of waiting for feedback—he even caught himself before handing work in.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stanhope Garden Library/ Dennis Johnson Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kellyville Public School.
