I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to improve their academic mindset. This can be achieved by raising the enjoyment around academia as well as improving the standards of grades and study practises. I enjoy the learning aspect of tutoring and am good at transferring knowledge to others. Yet, I am also very efficient…

The most important thing is definitely being patient and kind. A lot of people sometimes forget children/teens are not fully functioning adults yet, and they’re learning. Therefore, it’s very important to push them to the best they can do. By being indulgent and firm at the same time, I believe a tutor can get children to be their very best,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is bring him to enjoy the subject he is learning. Education is a necessary part of life and to get the most out of ones education they should like what they are learning. After that, it is important to make sure the student is confident in their abilities and does not fall into a spiral of…

I believe that if a tutor is kind, patient and shows respect, they will see greater results with their students. In order for effective learning, it is paramount to create a distraction-free, positive environment, and prepare well-thought out lessons ahead of time. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, I think that if a tutor is ready to motivate,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be there for them and listen. Furthermore, our role as tutors is to help children do the work, not do the work for them. Sometimes all students need is…

Inside KenmoreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Kiri began breaking down the Biology syllabus and completed a baseline quiz on genetics and evolution to assess understanding.

In Year 8, simultaneous equations were tackled using both substitution and elimination methods, with extra support for inequalities from earlier in the year.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 session focused on decimal operations—including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—plus solving multi-step word problems for real-world practice.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student left her notebook at school and still needed to begin organising maths notes separately for home study; as the tutor observed, "writing in random places for each one" made revision less effective.

In Year 12 Chemistry, one student struggled with structuring and planning a report—difficulty meeting deadlines meant feedback could not be applied before submission.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner did not complete assigned homework, impacting their readiness for new topics.

In a senior maths session, over-reliance on calculators led to errors like using the wrong formula without back-checking, which slowed progress during independent practice.

Recent Achievements

A Kenmore tutor recently noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who started working through stoichiometry problems independently after initially needing each step explained—by the fourth question, she worked out the solution solo.

Another high schooler in Year 10, who previously hesitated to ask for help, now speaks up when stuck and only needs minimal explanation before finishing problems on her own.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who struggled with long division picked it up quickly this week and managed subtraction and division steps smoothly without extra prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thanks for checking. Hendrik thinks Jacob is "cool" and is very positive about the tutoring. We are definitely going ahead.

Matthew is very happy with Anthony.  From the first day with Anthony, Matt realised what a great help Anthony will be with his better understanding of his studies in maths. Thank you for you help.

Rebecca had her third session with Kerryn tonight and is finding the tutoring helpful.  She has trial HSC exams in three weeks' time and finds Kerryn is good at explaining the concepts that she's struggling with.  I am impressed with Kerryn's calm manner and ability to explain things well to her.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kenmore Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kenmore State School.
