I believe empowerment is one single most important aspects a tutor can bring to a student's live. I have oftentimes seen students who are lost and have almost given up on their desire to learn a new topic. In these situations, it is crucial to approach such students with a massive smile on your face and listen to their issues and expectations in…

I can not only speak English, but also Japanese, Mandarin and Cantonese. I think I am also a talented people on teaching lectures because I always explain…

I believe it is paramount that a tutor communicates with the student, and understands what they find challenging and what they are seeking help for. It is through this communication that a tutor may effectively guide the student to achieve their educational goals and aspirations. I believe that my ability to communicate to students in a manner…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student go beyond just teaching content. A tutor should help a child feel capable--- when students believe in themselves, everything else becomes easier. It's important to break concepts down simply, meet students where they are, and help them move forward step by step without overwhelm.…

Be patient and actually encourage them to study and work hard. I like to start each session by actually asking them about their goals and if they have a set goal motivate them to pursue it. Explain it to them grades are important and make a big difference. Also, always let them know ask any single thing they want. The more questions the more they…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are listening to them and paying attention to their needs. Students can be shy and may not make it abundantly clear what they need in any given moment, but there are usually signs, though they may be subtle. It is a tutor's job to monitor the student throughout a lesson and make sure…

The most important thing a teacher can do for a student is to inspire confidence and a love for learning. When a teacher believes in their students and helps them recognize their own potential, it transforms how they approach education and challenges. Beyond imparting knowledge, a teacher’s role is to create an environment where students feel…

As a tutor's job is to be supplementary to a students learning, the most vital role a tutor can fulfill is to be sympathetic and understanding to a student's situation, and to be adaptive in the way they assist the student in order to maximise their potential. I think the best thing a tutor can do for a student is help them work towards their goals. To help a student walk the right path that he/she desires. A tutor should understand a students passion and dream and help them achieve this dream. You must be adaptable, and change according to how each student acts since every individual is very distinct, this will help cater to their differences (such as learning speed). Must also remember to leave no one student behind and pick them up when they fail, help them learn from their mistakes. I am very considerate and patient, thus able to…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not just teach them their lessons - but also teach them better study habits. This will ensure that the students may learn to study on their own without the help of a tutor all the time, and that they may be able to grow as an individual prepared for bigger challenges (such as uni,…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, are not only concrete plans and a sufficient level of knowledge, but also empathy to understand what the student needs and their natural ability. Among the most important things a tutor can do for a student is that a tutor must be able to understand a student's learning style so that the student would be able to learn the material in a way that is analogous to their mode of synthesising knowledge. A tutor must do this all the while being open and kind and most especially warm towards the…

Inside KensingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Aiden tackled solving algebraic expressions through factorisation and practiced simplifying equations by working backwards.

Year 10 student Olivia focused on understanding Pythagoras' theorem and applied it to distance problems on the Cartesian plane, then moved on to trigonometry homework, learning when to use sine, cosine, or tangent in real-world contexts.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Ethan worked on adding and subtracting fractions with both like and unlike denominators, as well as applying these skills to worded fraction problems for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, one student frequently avoided writing out algebraic steps when solving equations, leading to repeated sign errors—"he just wrote the answer, skipping how he got there," a tutor noted.

A Year 11 physics student often forgot to bring necessary materials, like textbooks and notes, which slowed progress on graphing tasks and forced reliance on memory instead of review.

In Year 5 English, messy written work and inconsistent backchecking meant spelling mistakes persisted in stories even after feedback.

For senior biology (Year 12), incomplete notes during revision made recalling enzyme names under test conditions much harder.

Recent Achievements

A Kensington tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to avoid asking questions now talks through tricky algebra problems out loud, even when stuck—something he hesitated to do before.

In senior biology, one high schooler managed to complete a practice test on DNA replication and polypeptide synthesis with noticeably fewer errors than in earlier sessions, showing she's retaining more detail each week.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously struggled with mixed and improper fractions has begun remembering to multiply independently at the right step without reminders, finishing her homework with only self-checked corrections.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Coogee Boys' Preparatory School.
