I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student go beyond just teaching content. A tutor should help a child feel capable--- when students believe in themselves, everything else becomes easier. It's important to break concepts down simply, meet students where they are, and help them move forward step by step without overwhelm.…
Be their friend and role model. Students have already enough to deal with in school. They need someone to listen to them and help them to clarify all their doubts. In a nutshell, I think a tutor must be :
--> A friend
--> An academic trainer
--> A mentor
--> A planner As a tutor, i focus more on an overall development than just focusing on the…

for me, tutoring is not about giving a subject material and that's it, the parents will leave with their child, therefore, you have to be trustworthy, and show them that he will be better not only as a student but also as a human. other than technical abilities, motivation and enthusiasm to the students,…

I think the most important part about tutoring isn't necessarily what the student sees but behind the scenes. Being a tutor means understanding the expectations and goals that are set out for the student, this includes being up to date on the child's curriculum and being prepared to touch on topics the student has previously struggled with in…

One of the most crucial roles a tutor can play is to ignite a student\'s passion for learning that transcends the confines of textbooks. I think the most important thing to understand as a tutor is that different students think differently. Certain students will naturally have more or less affinity to different subjects, but also different ways of learning. In primary, tutoring often targets core arithmetic—addition, subtraction, times tables, fractions, and building number sense—while also pushing for deeper comprehension, not just rote rules. High school sessions shift to algebraic thinking, graphing, interpreting questions, and developing strong exam strategies. There’s a big emphasis on breaking down word problems, revisiting tricky homework, and test prep for NAPLAN or semester exams, always tailored to what each student finds hardest right now.
Recent Challenges
Some primary students rush through comprehension or maths tasks without fully reading instructions, leading to incomplete or off-target answers. In high school, it’s common for students to have scattered or unclear working, which makes multi-step problems harder to check and fix. Other frequent hurdles include forgetting materials, leaving homework unfinished, or spending revision time catching up on missed basics instead of moving forward—all of which can hold back progress and lead to confusion.
Recent Achievements
Tutors are noticing students becoming more proactive during lessons—regularly checking their own work, spotting errors, and making corrections without being asked. There’s a clear shift toward students verbalising their steps in maths and explaining their reasoning aloud, rather than rushing through problems. Tutors also report that learners are reviewing their test results with more care and taking the initiative to improve, showing greater confidence and ownership of their progress.

Raymond is FANTASTIC - the benefits of his tutoring is already obvious with my eldest very confident and my youngest gaining it!
Our son started with his maths tutor in Year 6, he was struggling and his marks were in the lower quartile of the class. Now half way through Year 7, he's gained confidence with maths and achieving excellent marks placing him above the year average. His tutor is a great young uni student, he takes the time to explain problems in a way our son can understand them, he's patient and clear when he needs to redirect a problem. One of the great benefits is the wonderful example he has been to our son, showing him how maths will play an important part in what he might want to do in the future. We are extremely pleased with results our son is achieving and credit a lot of the improvement to the support and work of our Ezy Math Tutor. We love that tutoring happens at home and at a time that works for us a family.
