A tutor can clearly identify the strengths and weaknesses of students and guide them accordingly. He should focus on the strengths and minimise their weaknesses. This is very important as it gives a clear direction to the students. This can also help them realise what career path would be good for them. A tutor should also be able to help students…

I think the most important thing a physics tutor can offer to a younger student is their experience, similar to that of a mentor. Beyond course content, tutors can draw from their study, career and life experiences to help the student navigate their path. I am proud of my ability to teach and explain concepts to others effectively and thoroughly,…

A tutors primary task is to help the student with what they want to be helped with, and as a part of that accommodating to their individual needs and goals. Doing anything else would simply be disingenuous. It is worth noting further that accommodating to the student's needs in any way reasonable is quite close to the most important thing a…

I think that taking the time to really understand the student's needs and being able to break down the problem into its smallest components really helps to understand exactly where the student is going wrong, and how to help them. Once I understand where the student is struggling, I can focus on practicing that concept until they are comfortable…

Building the trust between the tutor and the student is what I believe it is most important. 1) Never make them feel that their doubt is small or way too easy. 2) Make sure they always ask questions and provide them with right answers. 3) Never give out the solution of any given problem at once but rather provide them small details, eventually helping them make their way out of the question on their own. By doing this, students tend to…

Inside KensingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Max practised addition and subtraction with four-digit numbers and explored algebra through interactive games, while also tackling a NAPLAN reading comprehension task.

Year 7 student Reuben worked on expanding brackets and simplifying algebraic expressions by grouping like terms, as well as reviewing more challenging homework problems.

For Year 8, Ella focused on solving equations with x-terms on both sides—including those resulting in fractional answers—and consolidated her understanding of index laws during the session.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student often avoided writing out steps, choosing to solve equations mentally—"he was very fluent with the calculator," as a tutor observed, but over-reliance on it led to small errors and missed working in homework.

In Year 10 trigonometry, skipping units and failing to show sketches meant lost marks even when answers were correct.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner resisted tackling long division unless fully confident; this hesitation slowed progress in new maths topics.

In senior chemistry, back-checking sometimes turned into cosmetic correction rather than real error analysis, leaving calculation slips unresolved before tests.

Recent Achievements

A Kensington tutor recently noticed a big shift in Max's attitude toward reading—where he once dreaded reading aloud and froze up at mistakes, he now brings his own book to sessions and reads enthusiastically, even when he stumbles.

In high school maths, Reuben has started tackling challenging algebraic equations with less hesitation; after struggling with factorisation early on, he now solves GCF problems—even tricky ones—in a single lesson.

William also made a breakthrough in geometry by quickly recalling SOH CAH TOA rules for right-angled triangles and correctly identifying triangle sides without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

She is one of the finest tutors I have seen. Her consistency and persistent attitude towards the children growth makes her exceptional. Because of her, my niece developed confidence in all phases of education.

Stephanie our tutor for Loki has been great. Loki is enjoying the sessions and in the short time we have seen him becoming more confident. Truly appreciate your assistance in getting Loki up to speed. Rest assured if I hear of anyone looking for a tutor I will send them your way!

I am very happy with my son's tutor so far. We have only had 2 sessions & already my son is doing his homework after school everyday, without being asked. He also is impressing his tutor with his knowledge. They both relate with each other & I can see good things for my son's future.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Green Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kensington Public School.
