A student approaches a tutor outside school just so they can understand the subject in a better way. As a tutor, I believe that the most important thing I can do for my students is to make them trust in me and eventually the subject because only then they would put in efforts to overcome their difficulties. As a tutor, I am responsible enough to…

Pass on the knowledge what we gained to the next generation. In this way we can produce a better youth by inculcating knowledge, research ideas and values in them. It'll last forever. - a pillar of support: from my experience, the most important thing I appreciated from my tutors is supporting me when I was stressed about exams. I can understand how stressful being a student can be and want to help them just as my teachers helped me. - helping the student improve: it’s not just about getting the specific grade immediately,…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to identify their strengths and areas of improvement in particular to improve the student's overall performance in a particular subject area. Thus, I believe it is really important to enable the student to feel empowered about their learning through support and encouragement. This…

In my opinion, a tutor must be able to empathize with the student and create a safe space for them. Its important to be constructive and patient especially with the ones that take time to grasp topics. One must keep instructions clear and always strive to empower the child by focusing on their strengths. Engage them instead of lecturing…

The most important thing for a tutor is to engage with the student in a way different than their teachers at school. Tutor should emotionally understand the student first. In my opinion, being a person that students are comfortable with to reach out for help is one of the most important things. A tutor should be there to assist them, not add stress or pressure to them. I also think it is important for tutors to motivate the students to learn, instead of just giving answers, and in motivating them, tutors should be…

From my experience, one of the most important thing I can do is finding out the weakness of students and helping them overcome that weakness instead of letting them away from it. Tutors should be honest, too when there is the question that we do not know. Last but not least, tutors should help students build confidence and give support as much as…

A good tutor needs to understand the student's needs and areas of weakness and work on them. A tutor can engage more in helping the student understand specific concepts and make the environment of teaching interesting. The teaching environment can be made interesting by giving the students a reason to learn the concepts and showing real-world…

Local Reviews

Stephan has been tutoring my daughter for a couple of years now. He is approachable, professional and excellent tutor. Eliza has gained and maintained her confidence in Maths which is especially important in Year 12. Stephan helped her transition to Zoom tutoring last year when he couldn't come to our house and this was so successful they continued their sessions remotely. I highly recommend Stephan!
Tanya Bailey, Kensington Park

Inside Kensington ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Priya focused on coordinate geometry by calculating midpoints and exploring perpendicular gradients, as well as starting linear equations using the Cartesian plane.

Year 10 student Marcus worked through solving simultaneous equations and applied perimeter and area calculations to geometry problems, often using diagrams to clarify each step.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emily reviewed bivariate statistics by interpreting residual plots and practising exponential regression techniques for her upcoming assignment.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, one student was hesitant to seek clarification on assignment requirements and needed reminders to double-check with the teacher, which left him "a bit unsure about his assignment."

A Year 10 learner preparing for a test struggled with keeping written work neat when copying matrices, making errors more likely during revision.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student occasionally forgot essential materials like a notebook or calculator, which disrupted focus during sessions.

In Year 7 geometry, skipping labels and units while finding area sometimes led to confusion over which formula to use.

Recent Achievements

A Kensington Park tutor noticed Armando, a senior student, has shifted from hesitating on normal distribution questions to tackling them with real independence—he even reviewed his B+ practice exam and pinpointed exactly where he could improve.

In Year 10, Alia started off unsure about approaching new problems but now tackles worksheets on her own before asking for help only when stuck, and she recently previewed surds confidently after solid trigonometry results.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once mixed up shapes can now quickly name different polygons and explain which sides are equal without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Jade has settled in really well with Sangdi, and has told me that she feels she is learning and understanding new things each time they have a meeting. I am also happy with Sangdi as I can see that he has already made progress with Jade.

Holly has stated that Jennifer her tutor is helping her with her Maths. She is certainly in a better frame of mind with Jennifer than when either myself or my husband had tried to help in the past. Early days yet but looking positive.

We are very happy with Kirill. In a short space of time he seems to have developed a good relationship with our sons. They feel comfortable asking for assistance in understanding concepts etc. I feel that Kirill is a good match and a great role model for them!!! It doesn't hurt that he is from NZ (like me); sporty (like my boys) and at Melbourne Uni doing engineering , which is something that I think may interest Mason!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burnside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marryatville Primary School.
