According to me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to instil confidence and positive mindset in a student which can empower the student to take on challenges. Developing a love for learning also goes a long way, as a tutor teaches a subject which he likes he can encourage curiosity and passion for the subject in his students…

The most important thing a tutor can do is not to flaunt their own brainpower like a flashy superhero cape. Instead, it’s about helping students discover their own hidden superpowers and showing them how to wield these talents for their own success. Think of it like being a treasure map that leads them to their own buried gems—helping them…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to get a proper understanding of the level of mathematical 'maturity' of a specific student, rather than just assuming a certain background knowledge. Once this is established, it's possible to get the core of what exactly a student is struggling with (usually a particular fundamental concept) and…

Also it is important for the tutor to make the subject fun for the student. My stranth is the ability to understand the students doubts and the ability to make the solution…

I consider that a tutor should be a good teacher but also a good person. He should be able to communicate and transmit his passion to give the desire to learn. (I am a native french so I can also teach french). Firstly I would say that my experience is my biggest strength, my computer science school allows me a lot of flexibility so I am available…

I think tutors need to make/ help students feel comfortable and less stressful with their studies in school. Talking to the students and identify their strengths and weaknesses, and hence support them to improve and reach their fullest potential. I always try to adapt my teaching to the students. I never want to be fixed with one way of teaching…

I think that a tutor should not limit themselves to just subject knowledge. They should research more on effective teaching methods and strategies that might help them connect to their students more. They should develop practices that make a student's life easier and should understand the individual needs of the students. Often tutors have to…

Taking the fear out of maths for students, and help them find their own way of learning and build their self-confidence. Become students’ friends so you can lead the children to the book, most students don’t want study because the teacher is too strict and always pushing them, if the tutor can become their friends, they can lead the student to study voluntary. I think being patient with someone and allowing them to grow in their own way and learn and figure things out is something very important for a tutor to understand. To go an extra step for his students and understand what the student is going through would be the most important things a tutor could do for his students. Because not everyone has the same learning rate, so, keeping patience and helping them with it would be a great way to tutor. What I think my strengths are that I explain a concept from very…

Inside KeswickTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Alice worked on algebraic expressions and basic trigonometry, practicing expanding brackets and identifying unknowns.

For Year 11, Sam focused on using derivatives to find sign diagrams and analyse the shape of graphs, then applied second derivatives to locate key graph points.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Grace concentrated on integration techniques and revisited core concepts through targeted exam preparation questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, one student's graph sketching was limited, making it harder to interpret trigonometric functions; as a tutor noted, "she needed prompting to connect different types of trig questions."

In Year 9, messy and disorganized books meant assignment instructions were missed or misunderstood—this led to confusion when drawing diagrams for worded problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student hesitated with time conversions and mixed up "half past" and "minutes to," especially under test conditions.

A lack of regular homework completion in these cases left gaps unaddressed until just before assessments, adding unnecessary stress during revision.

Recent Achievements

A Keswick tutor recently noticed Tia catching herself about to draw a line with the wrong gradient during a revision session—last term she often needed step-by-step help for this.

In another case, Molly (also high school) began bringing in her own tricky questions from class and now works through challenging problems independently after just some light prompting; previously, she hesitated to tackle harder tasks alone.

Meanwhile, Natalia in Year 3 showed new initiative by self-correcting missed parts of questions without reminders and successfully read an analogue clock unassisted for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Goodwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Richmond Primary School.
