First of all, to actually see them as an individual, not as a job, task or challenge. In terms of learning it's important to let the students figure it out themselves, kinda nudge them in the right direction, but just handing them the answer or the formula will probably hurt them in the long run. I have dealt with all kinds of kids and youth, so…

Inside KiaraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Austin focused on addition strategies and number patterns, then worked on recognising and describing 3D objects by their faces and edges.

For Year 7, Jasmine practiced converting decimals to percentages and vice versa, along with finding the percentage of a quantity using step-by-step examples.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Kiara reviewed linear equations—solving and plotting them on graphs—and deepened her understanding of normal distribution through revision of recent classwork.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Maths, skipping careful reading of multi-step test questions led to incomplete answers; as one tutor noted, "only the first part of some problems was attempted."

A Year 8 student's written algebra work lacked clear steps, making it difficult to identify calculation errors or revisit thinking.

In English for Year 5, rushing through comprehension homework meant key instructions were missed—answers did not refer back to the text as required.

During a senior assessment, anxiety caused planning and paragraphing in extended writing to be neglected; sentences remained basic and ideas unexpanded despite finishing early.

Recent Achievements

One Kiara tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's approach to maths: after struggling with normal distribution and linear equations, she not only grasped the concepts but started identifying for herself which areas needed more revision, even adding notes to her test prep page.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student began using estimation strategies when tackling tougher problems—something he avoided before—and now tries every question independently before asking for help.

In primary, Grace (Year 4) has started writing full sentences in comprehension without reminders; last week, she completed her essay neatly and answered all questions in complete sentences.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Hayden is really gelling with Rohan and after last weeks session he said “best hour I've spent all week”! So far so good. Rohan has turned up on time and is so organised and professional. All going really well.

The tutor you sent me on Sat is absolutely excellent. Pls don't change Mina. My kids feel really comfortable with her and finally we feel we have a winning formula.

It's got off to a great start, Beaux really likes Taran and she likes the way Taran explains things and shows her new ways of working things out. Taran has boosted her confidence and Beaux is actually able to do a lot more than we thought.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Beechboro Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Good Shepherd Catholic School.
