According to me, a tutor can help his student improve and be a stepping stone in achieving his goals . A tutor can make his student be a better person , and can inculcate the genuine love of learning and knowledge and showing others what it looks like to be passionate about his future. Sharing knowledge with the students is the main thing but…

The most important thing a tutor can do is not only to support a student but to make them feel as though they have accomplished what they set out to achieve, even if it is a small goal, as long as it gets fulfilled. I believe that I can personalise the amount of help I provide to a student, no matter their abilities. This will allow me to ensure…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to develop the student's critical thinking skills so that when they continue to study or whatever they want to achieve in life, they have the skills to keep learning and teaching themselves. A tutor must not only give a student the confidence and encouragement needed to learn properly, but…

Some of the most crucial things a tutor can do for a student are to boost their self-esteem, adjust to their preferred method of learning, and simplify difficult ideas. In addition to encouraging critical thinking and offering concise explanations, a tutor should foster a safe space where students feel free to make mistakes and ask questions. My…

When teaching a concept, I will always go back to the beginning to strengthen the basics of the topic. This way, development will be made more efficiently. These strong foundations will therefore lead to long term success and memory. I always take a step-by-step approach, making sure to focus on foundations before moving forward. I put my students…

The most important things a tutor can do for the student is listening to their questions and ensuring every explanation is understood. This ensures that the child not only acquires new knowledge but can apply it to their homework and grow as a student in maths. Also, a tutor must actively grow their methods of teaching, not using one explanation…

A tutor should be able to boost a student's confidence by providing them with the relevant knowledge needed to do well in their tests and exams. It is also important for the tutor to be compassionate with the students. I am compassionate with the students as I am willing to explain difficult topics until they understand without getting frustrated.…

The tutor can guide the student when they are facing difficulties. It is not the tutor's job to answer questions for the student, but rather to help the student make sense of how to solve a problem. To be there as a support structure, not just a tutor that's only available during the assigned time. A tutor is really another support avenue for a student's education is what I've found in my experience as both a tutor and a student frequenting tutors. Another key aspect of a tutor is to be able to not only build the knowledge of the student…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to not give up on the student. While it is rewarding when students improve, some can take a while before they can overcome their learning curve. It is important to be patient and work together as a team to help them achieve better results. I try to think outside the box and tailor my lessons to the…

I think it is extremely important for a tutor to be adaptable. Different students have differing learning styles and needs, and therefore, to help different students, you need to be able to tailor your tutoring to individualised approaches. Furthermore, rather than just giving the children the answers, as a tutor it is important to be able to help…

Georgie is really enjoying coaching with Gabrielle. She's already doing so much better in maths at school (her teacher has commented on the huge improvement at recent parent teacher conference!). Gabrielle is a real asset to your team. She's so polite, punctual, intelligent and just fantastic.

Inside KingsburyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Jessie worked on long division with both one- and two-digit divisors, then moved into simplifying and converting improper fractions as well as solving basic algebraic equations.

Year 8 student Amy focused on expanding and simplifying algebraic expressions, including the use of negative numbers, while also practicing distance formula calculations between two points without a calculator.

For Year 9, Ethan tackled trigonometry concepts such as Pythagoras' theorem and introductory trig ratios, supported by diagram-based problem-solving.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student relied heavily on calculators for basic multiplication ("tended to want to use the calculator for simpler multiplication problems such as 7x8 or 87x100"), which slowed progress in algebra and mental arithmetic.

A Year 11 student in Economics struggled to explain answers using key terms, leading to weaker responses on longer written tasks.

For a Year 5 learner, messy working made it difficult to track steps when dividing fractions, so mistakes went unnoticed until the end.

In VCE Chemistry, another needed reminders about organizing materials and remembering anion/cation rules before tests—forgetting led to confusion during practice questions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Kingsbury noticed a Year 9 student who used to rush through maths in her head now actively uses rough working and worked examples, helping her spot mistakes before they become habits.

In a recent high school biology session, one student started the lesson unsure but finished by completing textbook questions independently after clarifying the key concepts.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who was hesitant about multiplication began writing out her steps instead of guessing, which let her quickly find where she went wrong—she even asked for more challenging problems once she got the hang of it.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Reservoir Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of the Way School.
