Inside KingscliffTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Bella worked on English worksheets covering sentence structure and homonyms, as well as maths problems involving time from the EzyMath textbook.

In Year 9, Willow focused on simplifying and operating with fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Jeremy revised trigonometry by solving right-angled triangle problems and reviewed algebraic skills such as expanding brackets and factorisation to prepare for upcoming exams.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student entered an advanced maths session without the necessary preparation, noting, "I tried to prepare for the basics in all the year 12 curriculum that I wasn't prepared for the in-depth exam questions," which left them unable to tackle more complex problems during tutoring.

In a Year 9 algebra lesson, skipping over showing working led to hidden sign errors and confusion when reviewing solutions.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student struggled with written responses because they arrived without paper, missing out on practice entirely.

For one Year 8 science session, not bringing key materials meant time was lost searching rather than learning.

Recent Achievements

One Kingscliff tutor noticed a big shift with Jeremy, a high school student who used to hesitate with trigonometry and algebra; now he tackles these problems more independently and even checks his own mistakes without prompting.

In another session, Willow, also in high school, initially needed reminders for fraction methods but recently completed a full grade-level worksheet on her own—she now catches calculation errors before moving on.

For a younger student, Bella has started actively proofreading her English assignments instead of handing them in straight away; last week she found and corrected grammar slips by rereading aloud herself.
