I believe a tutor's role is to help students truly understand what they're learning, build their confidence, and develop skills they can use beyond the classroom. I'm patient and adaptable, and I take the time to explain concepts in different ways until they really make sense to the student. I try to create an encouraging space where they feel…

A tutor is a guide who would be able to give personal learning experience to students which they might not be able to get during a school class. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to imagine herself in the shoes of student and then make learning process easier. Gaining the student's trust and then making student feel…

The most important thing for a tutor to do to a student is to be able to connect with them on a level that allows them to understand the content. Not being able to form a connection with the student makes the learning process tough. It is important to find an approach that enables the student to succeed. As a tutor, I am able to connect with the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is build up his/her confidence on the areas he/she is lagging behind. Working as a tutor for hostel students made me realize my excellent ability to effectively communicate the subject matter in a way that best suits them. The most important things that a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, are motivating the students to learn on their own as well as arming them with the tools and study skills. The motivation to learn is critical, since the tutor can teach the material, but at the end of the day, it is the student who has to master it. Without such…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to guide them academically and aid their learning outside of their classroom. I believe it is important for tutors to help achieve the students academic goals, and be a mentor that they can rely on anytime. My strength is that I am able to relate to students who struggle with studies,…

I think the most important thing would be to assist a student in achieving their goals but to also challenge them to reach their potential. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be patient. What obvious for you, won't always be obvious for your students. So you have to be patient as students are all different. A tutor possesses many pivotal roles in a student's journey to tertiary levels. I believe the single most crucial contribution a tutor can make is to fan the flame. If a student gives up on their own ability despite genuine interest, then their potential will be lost. A tutor has the unique capability, and responsibility, to recognise and…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and create a safe space for the student. When tutors don't listen it'll be a waste of time for both parties. This can be very hard because sometimes students may not be able to pinpoint what they don't understand or they might just feel a bit embarrassed. This is where…

Go beyond just helping them do their assignments and touch up on what they fall behind in their classes. There is a quote by William Butler Yeats that captures the essence of what I believe is crucial for a tutor: "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." This means that a tutor's role is not just to transfer information to the student, but to spark their curiosity and interest in learning. Therefore, the most important…

Inside KyeemaghTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Sasha focused on algebra questions and consolidating her understanding of positive and negative integers through targeted practice.

Year 9 sessions with Liam addressed trigonometric ratios, including basic applications of sine, cosine, and tangent, as well as graphing these functions.

For Year 11 student Emily, recent lessons explored quadratic equations—covering both factorising techniques and use of the quadratic formula—plus applied skills to real-world problem scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student did not attend the scheduled online lesson despite reminders; as noted, "sent her texts and emails before the class, which she has not replied." This gap disrupts progress on planned tutorials.

Meanwhile, in Year 9 Algebra, incomplete homework was an issue: "must take his homework seriously, otherwise he will suffer the consequences of poor results."

A Year 8 student erased working out repeatedly rather than showing full steps—"erases work with an eraser instead of keeping working out"—making it harder to pinpoint misunderstandings during problem-solving.

Missed feedback and hidden errors slow improvement in both cases.

Recent Achievements

One Kyeemagh tutoring session saw a Year 10 student independently catch a calculation error before the tutor did, showing real engagement rather than just following along—he used to be more passive with problem-solving.

In another high school example, a student who had previously skipped writing down her maths working now consistently records every step and talks through her reasoning out loud.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner tackled mixed numerals for the first time and was eager to attempt challenging questions on her own, asking for extra practice worksheets without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brighton-Le-Sands Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kyeemagh Public School.
