I believe a biology tutor should be a role model for the students and encourage him/her on their academic journey. One of the most important things a biology tutor can do is just be patient with them. As students are brought up in a competitive environment in school, most times they feel inferior to their peers as not everyone learns at the same pace. Some learn faster and some learn slower and most often students feel lost and pressured. As a tutor, being…
Building the student's confidence and knowledge are the two key aspects of being a biology tutor that I have found during my experience. A tutor should always motivate a student to have a specific goal and want to work towards it. I believe the most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to teach them that learning can be enjoyable, and not just a task. The most important thing is to gain a core understanding of the topic, and not just a surface level rote learning of how to solve problems. It's also important to have an understanding of each student and to recognise when to push them and when they've hit a wall (mentally). I think my greatest strength is my approachability and flexibility. I do…

As a biology tutor, I consider it essential to establish a positive connection not only with the students but also with their parents. As a tutor, I take pride in my…
In primary, tutoring often targets core arithmetic—addition, subtraction, times tables, fractions, and building number sense—while also pushing for deeper comprehension, not just rote rules. High school sessions shift to algebraic thinking, graphing, interpreting questions, and developing strong exam strategies. There’s a big emphasis on breaking down word problems, revisiting tricky homework, and test prep for NAPLAN or semester exams, always tailored to what each student finds hardest right now.
Recent Challenges
Some primary students rush through comprehension or maths tasks without fully reading instructions, leading to incomplete or off-target answers. In high school, it’s common for students to have scattered or unclear working, which makes multi-step problems harder to check and fix. Other frequent hurdles include forgetting materials, leaving homework unfinished, or spending revision time catching up on missed basics instead of moving forward—all of which can hold back progress and lead to confusion.
Recent Achievements
Tutors are noticing students becoming more proactive during lessons—regularly checking their own work, spotting errors, and making corrections without being asked. There’s a clear shift toward students verbalising their steps in maths and explaining their reasoning aloud, rather than rushing through problems. Tutors also report that learners are reviewing their test results with more care and taking the initiative to improve, showing greater confidence and ownership of their progress.
What they say about our tutoring
I thought our tutor was very good, and was very happy with the professionalism. Many thanks Keep up the good work.,
Morgan (my son) reckons she is fantastic, and that she is really helping him out tremendously at the moment. He says he is understanding the work etc. I think the best part is that he is listening and communicating with her
Hello, I am sorry I have been so uncommunicative. Dev was lovely and I was sorry to see her go. She helped Thea very much with her maths and did herself out of a job. Thea and her teacher told me that she had caught up and was actually finishing before everyone else.  I hope however, I can get Dev back if Thea's maths falls back again. She was really fantastic and can highly recommend her.
