I think the most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is helping the student believe in themselves and letting them know they can do well. This is because most of the time students self doubts leads to them struggling with content not a lack of ability. I create strategies to help my students remember content easier and I make…

According to me, an economics tutor can help his student improve and be a stepping stone in achieving his goals . A tutor can make his student be a better person , and can inculcate the genuine love of learning and knowledge and showing others what it looks like to be passionate about his future. Sharing knowledge with the students is the main…

I would consider an ongoing \'positive reinforcement and encouragement\' to student is crucial for their success. Students love to be motivated in learning and they love to feel loved and supported in their learning journey. We as tutors are not just there to teach them what to do, but as their motivators to guide and encourage, so that they can…

Inside La Trobe UniversityTutoring Sessions

Content Covered
In primary, tutoring often targets core arithmetic—addition, subtraction, times tables, fractions, and building number sense—while also pushing for deeper comprehension, not just rote rules. High school sessions shift to algebraic thinking, graphing, interpreting questions, and developing strong exam strategies. There’s a big emphasis on breaking down word problems, revisiting tricky homework, and test prep for NAPLAN or semester exams, always tailored to what each student finds hardest right now.
Recent Challenges
Some primary students rush through comprehension or maths tasks without fully reading instructions, leading to incomplete or off-target answers. In high school, it’s common for students to have scattered or unclear working, which makes multi-step problems harder to check and fix. Other frequent hurdles include forgetting materials, leaving homework unfinished, or spending revision time catching up on missed basics instead of moving forward—all of which can hold back progress and lead to confusion.
Recent Achievements
Tutors are noticing students becoming more proactive during lessons—regularly checking their own work, spotting errors, and making corrections without being asked. There’s a clear shift toward students verbalising their steps in maths and explaining their reasoning aloud, rather than rushing through problems. Tutors also report that learners are reviewing their test results with more care and taking the initiative to improve, showing greater confidence and ownership of their progress.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thanks for your email, Aaron seems happy with the way things are going with his tutor Andrew, he seems to be learning things so we are happy.

We are very happy with Teresa, Katia feels very comfortable and is enjoying the tutoring.

We have had our introductory session with Rachel and we were very pleased on Saturday. Tommi is also very happy with Rachel.  They built a rapport and I believe it will work.
