The most important things a tutor can do are build a student's confidence, create a positive learning environment, and adapt to their needs. They should provide clear explanations, offering constructive feedback in the best way, and encouraging curiosity are key to helping students not only understand the concepts but also develop a love for…

Instill a sense of confidence in the child. make them feel as though they are capable of doing their work on their own, and that they have improved over their time with me. All tutors need to be patient, and I believe I am extremely. Taking time and care with kids that need that little bit of extra help is something I pride myself…

I believe that building trust and a strong line of communication between a student and their tutor is important. Tutors should strive to encourage, motivate, and support their students. Having grown up with a sibling with a learning disability, I have strongly developed patience, active listening skills, and the ability to read body language and…

Listening as well as talking. Getting the student to explain their understanding will assist me in finding gaps in their knowledge so l know their level. Additionally, patience and encouragement are crucial for the tutor when helping a struggling student. I am being understanding and offering support. As a recent HSC graduate, I know students can…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, tailor learning to their individual needs, and create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. It’s not just about helping them understand the material but also about teaching them how to think critically and approach…

Inside Lake HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Isla practised simplifying fractions and applying the order of operations, along with converting numbers to percentages using real-life examples.

For Year 11, Tom focused on algebraic manipulation and interpreting survey data in worksheet exercises, while Noah worked through statistics concepts such as mean and standard deviation by tackling targeted homework problems.

Year 12 student Natalia reviewed function properties like domain and range, then explored transformations within functions using a mix of textbook questions and discussion.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student reviewing algebra and linear functions repeatedly relied on solved examples, rarely attempting questions independently—"he needs to practice by himself the same questions," a tutor noted. This led to shallow understanding, especially before exams.

In Year 11, a student working on data analysis and measurement often forgot formulas between sessions because materials were not reviewed immediately after lessons.

Meanwhile, in primary maths, one child's sums were sometimes incomplete due to distraction and fatigue, with missed steps when tired.

For a Year 7 learner, forgetting feedback from previous sessions meant mistakes reappeared in multiplication drills.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Lake Heights noticed a real shift with Evie, a Year 9 student who used to hesitate when translating worded statements into algebra—after some targeted practice, she started working through these problems on her own without prompting.

Meanwhile, Zane (Year 11) showed new initiative by tackling chapter exercises independently at home and then coming to sessions ready with specific questions he wanted help on, a big change from waiting passively for guidance.

For a younger win, Chantel in Year 4 completed her homework error-free for the first time after struggling with long addition last term.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

So far we are happy with Stella Ananya is feeling more comfortable With her every week. Stella has been able to help her with general homework questions as well so that's fantastic for us.

Josh is great, Jaxon really likes him and they get along really well. Very happy with him in all aspects so thank you.

Erin is enjoying working with Cassie and is already showing the benefits of working one on one with her tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Warrawong District Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Warrawong High School.
