While a tutor's mission is to strengthen subject comprehension and application, the most important thing would be helping students see the significance of what they are learning. It is crucial to assist students in understanding why they need to understand those subjects and what benefits have we gained by learning and applying that knowledge. It…

I find that offering consistent and reliable support is the most crucial thing a tutor can do, particularly to senior students. Knowing that learning and studying is a difficult and complex process, a tutor must be a mentor students can look to for guidance so that their goals are aligned. My strengths include my adaptability and patience where I…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is create a space that they feel comfortable to be challenged and to learn in. It’s one thing to just help with answering questions but to encourage and motivate students to take on the difficult concepts even when they're working on their own, this is crucial and shows growth.…

The most important thing as a tutor is to help students connect to what they are learning. It is the job of the tutor to differentiate instruction based on the learning preferences of the students. Further, a tutor reinforces what the students have been learning at school. I am a teacher with 15 years of teaching experience. My last school was…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is to provide individualised instruction, as well as a safe and non-judgemental learning environment to student, something that they may not be able to obtain in a normal big-size class with limited time to teach an increasingly information-heavy curriculum. I have been tutoring students…

Inside LansvaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Lily revised expansion, simplification, and factorisation of algebraic equations and practised solving quadratic equations from class work.

Year 11 student Ahmad focused on financial mathematics by tackling credit, borrowing scenarios, and earning money calculations.

For Year 12, Sam worked through HSC-style questions involving probability concepts and advanced coordinate geometry using exam paper revision tasks.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, skipping written steps while using the quadratic formula led to confusion with negative signs—"he substituted too quickly and missed a minus."

For a Year 7 student, inconsistent homework completion meant formulas for volume and area weren't memorised; this caused hesitation during test revision.

Messy working in indices problems made error tracing difficult in senior years, especially under timed conditions.

During complex worded questions in Year 10, reliance on mental calculation rather than setting out logic clearly resulted in lost marks when revising past assessments.

These habits left students unsure where their errors crept in during independent practice.

Recent Achievements

One Lansvale tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 9 student who now confidently asks for clarification on tricky quadratic equations, rather than skipping problems as she did earlier in the term.

Another high schooler has moved from hesitating over financial maths questions to accurately calculating compound interest and using taxation tables without prompting.

Meanwhile, a primary student surprised her tutor by recognising which index laws applied in harder problems and applying them rapidly—just weeks ago, she would second-guess herself on even basic indices.

Last session, she solved the most challenging question on indices and volume entirely unaided.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Whitlam Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lansvale East Public School.
