The most important thing tutoring did for me was providing a deeper understanding of complicated topics that were hard to grasp. It is also important to be someone that the student feels comfortable coming to with help. So by showing understanding and appreciation for their effort, a student doesn't feel concerned for getting an answer wrong of…

I think a tutor should help build on students’ current thought processes and methods through asking them how they’d first approach a challenging question and their next steps using the given information. This is because when people are stressed they resort to what they know best. As such, in test conditions students will be less likely to…

Tutor should be able to understand the students' mindset as well as the subject knowledge student has before starting the tutorial. Try to make things simple so that students can grasp easily. I find ways to explain things in a simple way for students to understand easily. I focus on the areas where students find it more difficult and try to make…

Therefore, creating a space for the student's emotions allows them to approach me with any question or issue that they have without fear or embarrassment is a priority for me. A tutor's role, I believe, is to guide the student in the correct direction. It is not to provide the answers the minute the students get stuck, because that will result in students who cannot think for themselves. That is the major goal that I set for myself as tutor; can I make my students independent learners, able to think and approach…

1. Understand the strong areas a student is in, let's say it's hard to teach the student mathematics/science when his/her passion is towards art. Understanding the key competencies of a student makes a good tutor, who can then channel them in the right direction to progressive and efficient results. 2. Practical learning, it's easier to teach…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is have an interest in the topic themselves. An interested tutor increases the interest of the students meaning the student has more of an incentive to study and invest their time in a subject. Further more an important aspect of a tutoring job is preparation on the side of the tutor, to allow…

Local Reviews

First contact, reply was within an hour. A tutor was assigned and progress was made immediately. We started with Math for Year 11 and progressed to English for Year 12, both subjects have given great results so far. Definitely recommend EzyMath Tutoring to future students in need of confidence.

Inside LavertonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Harry practised solving and graphing linear inequalities, as well as simplifying algebraic expressions with a focus on factorising.

For Year 11, Maya worked through differentiation techniques in calculus and tackled applications of derivatives using exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Chloe focused on probability distributions, including binomial distribution problems and interpreting statistical results from practice assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student struggled with forgetting key algebraic rules during classwork, leading to hesitancy and missed steps when solving equations.

In Year 11 Maths Methods, "timing during questions" was flagged as a concern—spending too long on familiar problems left little time for challenging sections, especially in differentiation tasks.

Another senior student relied heavily on their CAS calculator for fraction manipulation but then felt lost without it in non-calculator exams.

When exact values in trigonometry came up, skipped revision of formulas meant blank spots mid-test, leaving answers unfinished as the clock ran down.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Laverton recently noticed a big shift with a Year 12 student who used to freeze on worded maths problems—now, after working through strategies together, she's able to break down and solve these questions without prompting.

In Year 10, one student who had trouble applying the product and chain rules in calculus started picking them up much faster, showing more independence during practice sessions instead of waiting for hints.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who often forgot content from week to week surprised his tutor by recalling previous lessons and answering all ten basic algebra questions correctly without reminders.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Nina was very happy with her tutor, and her marks in maths have shown good improvement. We have been happy with Ezymaths as well.

We are so happy with Sarah.  She is extremely professional and very well organised.  She is also very thorough with her lessons and her method of teaching. Chantal really enjoys the hour she has with Sarah and Chantal has already gained confidence and is enjoying maths once again due to Sarah's positive and constructive feedback. Sarah is an asset to Ezymath Tutoring.

Thank you for the follow up. Sinan is working out fine. He has connected with Matthew well. Matthew has indicated that Sinan is explaining some of the mathematical concepts better than what his teacher is explaining, which is a good start. Hopefully this will translate into a better maths grade.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Altona Meadows Library and Learning Centre—or at your child's school (with permission), like Seabrook Primary School.
