The most important thing a tutor can do for students is to build their confidence. When students believe in their abilities, they become more motivated, resilient, and open to learning, which leads to long-term success both academically and personally. As a tutor, my strengths lie in creating personalized learning experiences, building strong…

I think besides helping a student with his/her academics, a tutor can act as a role model for him/her or someone he/she can look up to. A tutor can not only provide academic assistance but also can broadens a student's outlook in many ways by sharing with him/her many stories, news and also giving an idea about manners and ethics as well. The most…

I believe that a tutor is a role model for many students so, he/she should should always think before reacting to any situation that how it’s going to effect the students who are watching him/her. I believe that students can learn way of living from their tutor so one should always help them in learning good moral values and help them in being …

Well, I believe it is understanding them and their concerns and not giving them pressure for not understanding a certain topic. We can help them by cheering them up instead of making them feel small for not understanding. I believe my patience and understanding towards the person. What a tutor should and need to do are guiding a child to enhance their strengths and improve their weaknesses with all of the power invested in ourselves; reminding and figuring out what their barriers are to success (such as are they afraid of they can't pass? or they are not receiving any support from their beloved ones?). In my power, I'd do…

Education is one of the most important assets one can possess. I believe that I serve an onus to the youth to teach and share ideas with them. As students are young, it is important to start them on the right footing early. - I am organised and able to deliver theory in a concise way. - I can accurately and precisely teach students while making…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and understanding. It would be difficult for a student to grasp an understanding if their tutor was unreliable and easily frustrated. I am committed to my students, trying my hardest to ensure that they understand the content and flourish. Additionally, I am a creative…

By creating a positive and supportive environment, students feel comfortable asking questions and taking risks. Tailoring lessons to how a student best absorbs information keeps…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to ensure that learners would feel safe and secured when they are being attended to. Aside from that, a tutor should also consider the transfer of knowledge where tutors act as facilitators for the students learning. The best thing a teacher can do to a student is to adapt to student's learning style. Above all, I believe it is the moral support and social relationship as a mentor for the student. In other words, to provide them with attention and assistance that they otherwise would not benefit from in a classroom setting where there are lots of other students for one teacher. I believe in helping students achieve their own best, no matter…

Ensuring that students aren't afraid to ask for help. It's vital that tutors reinforce the fact that we are there to help them and won't care at all if they make mistakes and that it's a necessary part of the learning process. This not only helps build a sense of rapport with the student, but it promotes efficient and effective learning. I think…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is create lessons around a student's skillset and ability. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel totally at ease with the subject. I believe persistence and encouragement are important in supporting a student, especially if they don't receive this at their own school. A main reason students don't do well or aren't productive is because they aren't motivated. It is important to try and help them be self-motivated by their own passions and desires in life. I would not give up…

Inside Laverton NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 Oscar focused on solving worded quadratic equations and spent time graphing cubic functions.

Year 10 Ava worked through challenging derivatives questions, including the chain rule and product rule, and practiced inverse function problems using past exam material.

For Year 11 Dean, recent lessons involved tackling integration questions in preparation for an upcoming SAC and revising key trigonometry concepts like the unit circle with homework review.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's algebra work was often hard to follow—his working out can be very messy and unclear, making it tough to spot errors or review steps, especially with surds and fractions.

In Year 11 Methods, one student would jump into algebraic manipulation without first checking for possible simplifications, resulting in wasted time and confusion mid-solution.

Another Year 12 learner hesitated to attempt complex probability questions involving multiple variables, sometimes giving up early despite being capable of solving them.

When exam wording became tricky in senior maths, a lack of confidence led to missed opportunities on challenging problems.

Recent Achievements

One Laverton North tutor recently noticed Ava, a Year 12 student, no longer relies on the formula sheet for chain and product rules—she's now able to complete derivative calculations faster and from memory, after struggling to recall them before.

Oscar (Year 11) has started catching his own algebra mistakes with indices mid-question, rather than waiting for correction; he's also begun to approach difficult problems by trying new methods independently instead of hesitating.

In middle years, Dean has made a shift from frequent errors in expansion to self-checking his work—he picked up a mistake himself while reviewing solutions last week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Altona Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Martin de Porres School.
