A tutor can do for a student: To believe that he/she can do much better. To make learning interesting and fun. To realise the true potential and encourage. I try to figure the weakness of the student. I am friendly to my students so that they don’t hesitate to share their concern about the subject. I always target and solve the…

The most important role a tutor can play is showing constant and unconditional support for their student. This is something I've learned from the example of my previous tutor who answered almost every email or text message within the hour within reason. I believe showing this constant support allows the student to trust us as tutors and react more…

Helping a student understand their content and what they're struggling with and helping them through that content making sure that it becomes a non issue. I believe tutors are there to aid students in gaining a better understanding of their content and properly engaging with that content, and not just about cramming the school syllabus in a few…

This comes from personal experience, but making the subject fun. Subjects like say maths, english, physics aren't always seen as fun by the average student, and can be daunting to think about. My goal is to one day be that teacher that makes students actually look forward to learning those subjects, and I think it's the most important thing a…

I think the important things a tutor can do are to facilitate a student’s true understanding of the subject, instill confidence, and create a comfortable environment for them to ask questions. A good tutor doesn’t just answer questions — they break it down in a way that student can understand at their own level. I also think that just…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is inspire their students to be curious. Encouraging curiosity helps students develop a genuine interest in learning, motivating them to explore concepts beyond the surface. When students are curious, they become more engaged and proactive in their education, asking questions and seeking deeper…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give him the confidence that he or she can achieve their goals. Every child or student has different levels of understanding, and it's a teacher's job to understand that level and start teaching from there and gradually motivating them to work harder. Patience Using innovative ideas to…

It is important that tutors not only foster improvement but also a passion for the subject being taught. As such, I believe that tutoring should be an enjoyable and enriching experience. It is also important that the tutor examines the tutee's strengths and weaknesses and acts accordingly. An awareness that every student is different allows…

I believe that the best thing that a tutor can do for a student is to teach them to be an independent learner, so they can solve problems on their own after they have moved on from tutoring. I am good at communicating and I can effectively share my knowledge in an interesting way, often by linking problems to realistic situations. I can also break…

Help a student not only do better or to learn further in a subject but to actually inspire them to want to study and do they best that they can. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to never give up on them. Such a tutor, whom is demotivating, doesn't care and has a lack of patience will also cause the student to reflect the same behaviour towards the area of difficulty. The student will develop an attitude which lacks motivation, work ethic and form low…

Inside LeppingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Reuben focused on multiplying two-digit numbers and linking this to division, using step-by-step examples.

For Year 11, Sarah worked through chemical equilibrium concepts, including Le Chatelier's Principle and the Haber process, making use of real-life scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Jack revised integration techniques with trigonometric functions and tackled practice questions involving areas between curves to strengthen his calculus skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4 maths, one student avoided writing out multiplication steps and instead counted on fingers, which slowed progress—she needs to practice more and not rely on her fingers.

For a Year 12 chemistry student, over-reliance on notes rather than making her own summaries led to surface-level understanding: "needs to spend more time on making notes in order for a better understanding of all the concepts in this module."

Meanwhile, a Year 12 maths student skipped checking working in integration questions; when errors occurred, he struggled to spot them until they were pointed out. Marks slipped away quietly during calculation-heavy sections.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Leppington recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to skip questions if unsure now tries every calculus problem, even when he isn't confident, showing real persistence and initiative.

In Year 12 chemistry, another student has started bringing her own study notes to sessions and is able to explain the structures and functions of alcohols in her own words—something she was hesitant to attempt before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once struggled with multiplication now quickly identifies patterns in times tables and finishes her homework without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Carnes Hill Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Amity College Leppington Campus.
