- Reminding the student that the HSC isn't as dramatic as their school culture makes it seem. Instead it is just a piece of paper like any other exam. - Hearing the student talk about their weakness and uncertainties, and working on them immediately to have optimised for their upcoming exam. - Willingness to listen with any issues a student may…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not only assist in their studies, but also to be able to work independently but know when to ask for help through the students ability to detect errors and my assistance when possible. I believe it is not the grade that matters, but the effort, dedication, commitment and time the student…

The most important things that a tutor must do for students is to always demonstrate patience and love towards them. It might take time for them to understand the lesson so you have to bear with them. My strengths as a tutor is that whenever I revisit lessons that I learned in the past, I am passionate to learn/relearn about them and I am also…

a student always goes to a tutor when they find that they need some extra bit. so a tutor must see what that 'extra bit' is? is it time? is it the base knowledge of student, or is it something to do with his style of processing the information. or may be something else. but a tutor must understand the overall demand of the tutoring class and…

The most important thing is to be of assistance. Every student has the potential to achieve good marks and be great at something. We as tutors need to learn and understand students as individuals. As tutors, we should provide a safe space for students that would make them realise that it is okay to make a mistake. Next, we should also make students feel that they can achieve their academic goals. Continuously giving them positive feedback is helpful as well because it would motivate them to work harder. And lastly, as tutors, we should…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to foster a love for learning. In my opinion the most important thing a tutor can do is make sure that the student truly understand the various concepts taught. When i first told my daughter Isabella that i was getting her a tutor she was a little anxious and apprehensive about the idea. From the very beginning Amira made Isabella feel comfortable to the point where she now looks forward to her lesson each week. I hope for Amira to continue to work with Isabella into the future as i have no doubt she is helping my daughter progress and making it possible for her to achieve a higher standard.

Inside Lethbridge ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Sidney practised counting forwards and backwards from any three-digit number, explored place value using hands-on materials, and worked on recognising and sorting Australian coins.

In Year 9, Omar revised non-linear equations by working through challenging worksheet questions and also began planning his English discursive essay on the film Pleasantville by analysing key scenes.

For Year 10, Sofia reviewed algebra problems from her preliminary exam and strengthened her understanding of rates and ratios in preparation for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student struggled to focus during exams, leading to "a lot of careless mistakes," especially in algebraic word problems—this left some questions incomplete and hurt overall results.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student tackling surds tended to avoid the trickier operations and stuck with familiar types, which slowed their progress with new content.

In primary years, one student jumped straight into answering time questions without fully reading them, as noted: "she was eager to finish the work." This caused confusion between hour and minute hands, leaving her unsure how to check her answers when stuck.

Recent Achievements

One Lethbridge Park tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to depend on graphing software now finishing his classwork independently and on time, showing stronger fundamental maths skills.

Another high schooler recently improved their speed and accuracy with expanding brackets after struggling to keep up before; they're now confidently asking for extra practice instead of shying away from challenging algebra questions.

In primary, Sidney, who last year hesitated when counting by tens, surprised her tutor by picking it up in just five minutes without any visual aids and even spotted number patterns that many peers miss.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thank you for the follow up. Sinan is working out fine. He has connected with Matthew well. Matthew has indicated that Sinan is explaining some of the mathematical concepts better than what his teacher is explaining, which is a good start. Hopefully this will translate into a better maths grade.

Thank you for your e-mail.  I have spoken to Wen from the beginning about how he finds the tutoring with Charles.  Wen advised that he is happy with Charles as Charles is very kind and very understanding tutor. Wen said Charles communicate with ease and that makes it easier for Wen to understand.  Wen said he likes that Charles teaches him the faster and straight forward methods as it is less confusing.  Wen said he has been attempting harder questions with Charles which in turn gives him more confidence to attempt them.

We are very happy with Harriet , thanks. Mikayla has found it very easy to relate to her , and Harriet is always approachable and responsive. As it has only been a couple of weeks and is now school holidays , we haven't got any school results to go on however I am sure we will start to see results in this area. We had a negative experience with tutoring in the past (different organisation) , so we were reluctant to go down this path again , however I think we will have success with Harriet.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mt Druitt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lethbridge Park Public School.
