I believe that getting high grades in school is not the most important goal for my student (although this is something we work towards), but rather what is most important for me as a tutor is to see them learn, progress and improve each time. I want to teach them the value of hard work while building up their confidence and motivation to tackle…

A student approaches a tutor outside school just so they can understand the subject in a better way. As a tutor, I believe that the most important thing I can do for my students is to make them trust in me and eventually the subject because only then they would put in efforts to overcome their difficulties. As a tutor, I am responsible enough to…

A tutor must be able to commit to providing all the correct resources and help that a student needs. They should be patient with the student, understand learning patterns and be able to deliver information in simple terms. Tutors should also never judge but instead approach every problem in a friendly and helpful manner, as this will maintain an…

For me, one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is interaction. As interactive the session will be, more output will one get from their students. I’ll try to become their friend rather than being a typical teacher. Homework and self study will be two of the key tasks of the session. One of my biggest strength as a tutor is…

The most vital thing a tutor can do is to make study fun , yes, a student who just remained worried about studies and exams should no longer be worried if he or she has a tutor . Besides helping them understand and learn a topic, the tutor should also help the student master the topic through mastery learning. Being a medical student, I value how education builds an individual. Having the right mentors and teachers during one's educational journey can either make or break them. They should develop practices that make a student's life easier and should understand the individual needs of the students. Often tutors have to…

A tutor should create a safe space for a student so that he/she can reach out whenever needed. She is great, lovely and kind. Plus she has the positive energy to deal with the kids. She is generally good with the little ones and has the tactics to keep them engaged. I am happy with her. She gives the right amount of hone work for the rest of the week.

Inside LightsviewTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Bianca focused on combinations and practiced the 9 times tables, reinforcing foundational multiplication skills.

For Year 11, Isabelle tackled trigonometric graphs and functions from her Haese textbook, followed by work on probability and statistics using targeted examples.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Petra concentrated on natural logarithms in her Haese text, then explored differential calculus concepts using first principles to deepen understanding for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 calculus, skipping steps when setting out derivatives made it harder to spot sign errors—one tutor noted, "she needs to work on how she sets out her answer."

In a Year 9 session, incomplete homework and forgetting materials meant the student could not show recent schoolwork for feedback.

For a Year 3 student, reluctance to complete assigned times tables practice slowed recall in multiplication tasks.

Meanwhile, in Year 11 methods, over-reliance on calculator entry led to bracket mistakes during equation input; corrections ate into lesson time that could have been used tackling new content.

Recent Achievements

A Lightsview tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student who had previously struggled to apply differentiation formulas—she now confidently implements them and is halfway through mastering sign diagrams, showing real independence compared to earlier sessions.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student who used to wait for guidance has started attempting maths questions independently before asking for help, demonstrating newfound initiative during their tutoring sessions.

In the primary years, one student became much more fluent in reading aloud after initially hesitating with longer passages; this week she read an entire page smoothly without stopping once.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I have seen improvement already. Jason is a gem and I want to continue with Will having his weekly tutoring session.

Priscilla is wonderful with both my boys. I would recommend her without hesitation.

WE are very happy with Adam. He is an excellent tutor and he is engaging them both very well

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenacres Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Martin's Catholic Primary School.
