Inside LotaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Ava practised multiplication facts for 2, 3, 5, and 10 and solved true or false statements about these tables.

Year 10 student Sam worked on **quadratic equations** and explored exponential functions and their graphs to strengthen algebra skills.

For Year 11, Mia focused on arithmetic and geometric series, tackling sequence questions using **formulae and diagrams** to visualise patterns.

Recent Challenges

A Year 3 student was often eager to "rush through" addition and subtraction tasks, which led to skipped steps and confusion between operations—"Lucas sometimes draws an extra circle or misses one because he is really fast," noted a tutor.

In English, another child hesitated to read aloud challenging words, preferring comfort-zone vocabulary over unfamiliar terms; this reluctance limited confidence growth during reading sessions.

For a senior student in data handling (Year 10), plotting graphs became difficult when they forgot to double-check bracket placement in formulas, leading to incorrect results that had to be retraced from scratch.

Recent Achievements

A Lota tutor recently noticed Ruby, a high school student, now applies the seasonal index formula independently to identify trends—something she previously needed step-by-step guidance for.

Isaac, also in high school, was able to graph exponential functions on his own and accurately predict their behavior after struggling with this abstract topic just weeks ago.

In primary sessions, Lucas began asking for help when he didn't understand subtraction with borrowing rather than quietly guessing—he then completed all his subtraction exercises correctly without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

that Harry would get to the stage where he could do it on his own. I have been very impressed with the results he has been getting and they have far exceeded my expectations so the tutoring has been an outstanding success. I don't want to finish it though just put it on hold while we work on physics for a term. I hope that is ok with you and David.

We have been impressed by Callum's diligent approach to helping Georgina, his wit and time flexibility have made things as easy as possible for her. With warm regards.

Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how happy we have been with Sigrid  who has now had 4 sessions with our son, Andreas. She is a very caring and enthusiastic young lady who, over a short period of time, has built a lovely rapport with Andreas. In turn, Andreas feels very comfortable with her and looks forward to the sessions. Sigrid's competence and the commitment she displays are commendable and have resulted in a noticeable improvement in Andreas's confidence and his motivation towards maths. Many thanks for sending her our way.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wynnum Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lota State School.
