It is being able to relate to students who struggle and find a way that works for them, not necessarily a way that only works for me. In my experience, a student needs a tutor willing to adapt to their needs. A tutor can always keep track of their student's progress and help them achieve their goals. We are helping students achieve their goals.…

The most important thing a tutor can do is make understand the exact areas of difficulties a student has, and aims to help them without being judgemental or rushing the student to understand the concept. Being open. It is so crucial that the tutor is inviting and welcoming so the student does not feel uncomfortable. You can only learn in an environment which is safe, comfortable, and considerate of whatever circumstances you are facing. Without taking these as the foundation, teaching students is far from reach. Listening. Even though one may be…

Inside LyndhurstTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Jay worked on measurement skills and multiplying/dividing by multiples of 10, often using visual examples.

For Year 10, Chloe revised sine and cosine rule applications in trigonometry and practiced Pythagoras' theorem in three dimensions with guided problem sets.

In Year 11, Nathan tackled empirical formula calculations from molar ratios in chemistry and reviewed redox reactions by stepping through sample questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student working on matrix multiplication and trigonometry often left questions unfinished when stuck, as a tutor noted: needs to persist more with approaching problems and not give up too soon.

In Year 10 algebra sessions, skipping written steps meant sign errors in solving equations were hard to catch.

Another session revealed a Year 9 student forgetting to bring calculators or notes home, making it difficult to practice new skills independently.

Meanwhile, a primary student focusing only on times tables found that missing regular revision at home led to slower recall during lessons.

Recent Achievements

In Lyndhurst, a Year 10 student who used to stay quiet now actively asks for help when stuck on equations and applies what they've learned straight away, a big shift from earlier sessions.

In Year 12 Chemistry, another student recently researched independently using both their textbook and online sources before attempting questions—something they previously avoided without direct prompting.

A younger primary school student has begun tackling three-digit subtraction problems with fewer prompts and double-checks their own answers instead of waiting for the tutor's cue. Last session, they completed all three sums correctly on their own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I have spoken with Cate who is finding Nikhil's explanation of maths concepts very helpful.

We could not be happier with Mandar he is very pleasant to deal with, always on time and very good with the Khai, Piper and Chase.

Connor was great and has put Indigo on a great pathway for working independently with her maths.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hampton Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lyndhurst Primary School.
