Extremely patient and a world of knowledge, just in two sessions I can see the drastic improvement in Emma's work. Very happy client here. Please pass on and tell tutor what a amazing job she is doing, very important to me to recognise good work

Inside MagpieTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Greta revised negative numbers and algebraic expansion, using number lines to reinforce operations and practicing expanding brackets.

For Year 10, Lachlan focused on trigonometry, including applying SOH CAH TOA as well as sine and cosine rules to solve for unknown sides and angles in triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Jack worked through domain and range of functions—both with graphing linear inequalities—and tackled simultaneous equations in word problems using substitution methods.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often skipped showing working in algebra, leading to missed sign errors and confusion—he tends not to double-check answers, which leads to basic mistakes.

In Year 11 Maths Methods, another student struggled with rationalising surds due to messy multi-step layouts that made it hard to spot where things went wrong.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 learner hesitated to express uncertainty on tests, sometimes leaving answers blank instead of asking for clarification or writing out her thinking; this left teachers unaware of specific gaps. Time was lost retracing steps or guessing what the question wanted instead of moving forward confidently.

Recent Achievements

A Magpie tutor recently saw a Year 11 student who'd previously needed step-by-step guidance with quadratic equations start forming equations on his own and confidently apply the quadratic formula without prompting.

In another session, a Year 10 student who used to skip over trigonometry questions was able to quickly identify triangle sides and choose the right ratio—showing real independence in applying SOH CAH TOA.

Meanwhile, a younger student who struggled to visualise fractions began matching equivalent fractions using arrays and grouped dots herself, moving past earlier mistakes like miscounting or focusing only on shapes that looked similar.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are so happy and impressed with Pariese. She has already made a great rapport with Charlie, which was our initial concern. She is both both professional and engaging with an obvious passion for maths. She has given us feedback relating to Charlie's learning style and is active in finding strategies to suit him. The fact that he looks forward to his lesson, is a testament in itself. She is always punctual and happy to have a brief at the end of each session. I have spoken to Pariese about Charlie needing long term tutoring, to which she agreed.

Everything seems to be progressing well, Trai is asking questions which is good, he is quite happy to have the lessons I know its early days so we will wait and see

Everything is going well and Nayte likes Thilacsan. He has given Nayte some problems to work out during the week which he is doing.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sebastopol Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Magpie Primary School.
