I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is provide support at all times needed, whether it is via social networking or phone call. In my past experiences I had tutors that were frequently available via messenger and I found this very helpful. I am a confident and enthusiastic person. As a tutor, these abilities help me…

First and foremost, a tutor has to gel up with the student, make him/her comfortable. Once that is done, the teaching method adopted must be interesting, with must include examples from daily life so that the student can relate to it easily. Moreover, a diagrammatic approach must be used while teaching, since, children tend to remember pictures…

Tutor's role is not only to simply teach the lessons for a student to gain understanding and become knowledgeable about it. The most meaningful learning is how a learner learns the process but will become a holistic individual. This means he will be taught not only cognitively but his/her affective and psychomotor learning domains will be…

I consider patience to be very essential when it comes to teaching. In order to be able to guide a student in the best possible way, I strongly feel that a tutor should understand the needs of a student and take the time to lead them in the direction that they aim to achieve. Motivation is also key as it is usually effective if pushing a student…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to always keep the subject as interesting as he can. The way I keep things interesting is to get to know more about the student's interests and try to relate the subject to his interests. By doing this, the student will be able to see the value of the subject. Patience and experience. From…

Patience is first and foremost when you're with a student. It is vastly important that you should respect the pace at which the student learns and works at, to never pressure or rush the student, to challenge them without making them feel small or inadequate. We all learn in different ways and at different speeds - none of which are better or…

I think a tutor can help a student to boost confidence in a situation where a little more dedicated time and effort could make possible. Inside MandogalupTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Oliver worked on solving simultaneous equations using both elimination and substitution methods.

For Year 10, Sarah focused on completing the square for quadratic equations to find unknowns and also revisited probability questions from a previous assessment.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Liam practised dividing polynomial expressions by linear factors and finding solutions to cubic functions, using worked examples to build confidence with new algebraic techniques.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student tackling algebra frequently omitted working, with one tutor noting, "he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors"—this led to repeated mistakes when solving for variables.

In Year 11 mathematics, scattered lesson materials and disorganized folders meant Dana struggled to keep track of what needed review, causing last-minute cramming and confusion.

For a Year 5 student, messy written work in subtraction problems made it hard to spot where errors crept in.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 learner often left homework incomplete and didn't bring the required textbook, so practice opportunities were lost.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Mandogalup noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who, after previously missing the distinction between real and non-real solutions in quadratics, now confidently identifies no real solutions and pinpoints past mistakes without prompting.

In Year 11, another student has moved from needing reminders to independently annotating calculations clearly so that their report explanations are now thorough and easy to follow—something they struggled with last term.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner who once hesitated with subtraction word problems is now tackling them in different contexts and even asks for extra examples during lessons.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kwinana Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Jilbup Primary School.
