The most important things a tutor can do for a student is being there for them in their studies and making sure they know it is a safe place to learn Additionally, all students have different methods and ways which they learn because I think one doesn’t suit all, so finding out and testing which way your student learns the best is an…

The most important thing a tutor can do for his or her student is to be patient. Often tutors can cover content or explain concepts very quickly in an attempt to meet time constraints but this will not be beneficial for the student as they will not understand or learn thoroughly. It is important for tutors to take time to patiently and logically…

The most important thing I would say would be guidance. Providing students with guidance on the correct study habits, as well as the necessary skills to succeed in high school. Having done tutoring previously, and have had 8 years of public speaking competitions, I have the necessary skills to communicate with my students, where I can alter my…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to cater their teaching towards the student, and to help them implement good study skills. One of these skills I find important is consistency, so as a tutor I would try to implement consistency not only in our lessons but in their study behaviours. My strengths as a tutor includes my…

The ability to understand the student's likes and dislikes, this allows the tutor to change his/her teaching style to match the student's path of understanding and through this the student is more likely to learn and benefit from the lesson. This is crucial in the student's journey and one of the main characteristics that a tutor should have. My…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage the student and build their skills enough where they have the confidence to feel as though they can do their subject with no help from their tutor. Basically the tutor them and encourage them enough to the point where they do not need you anymore. My strengths are in tutoring is…

The most important thing a tutor can do is build strong fundamentals for the student which the student can then practice and ask for help if needed. I think the most important thing for a tutor to do is to always be available to the students for any questions they may have, in and outside of the lesson. This is because I beleive that being afraid to ask questions is the biggest barrier to learning as this conversational aspect is crucial to understanding a concept entirely. Apart from that,…

A tutor must be able to not simply teach a subject but also create a desire for learning and must be able to do both to effectively teach. I also think that a tutor should be able to build on previously known concepts by the student and be able to articulate ideas in different ways to enhance their understanding of a topic. My strengths lie in my…

Inside MarayongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Jacqui worked on long division, multiplication, and indices in preparation for her recent test.

In Year 8, Alysse focused on financial maths by completing a homework assessment and then tackled compound interest questions to strengthen understanding of percentages in real-world contexts.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Grace revised algebra skills by simplifying and expanding expressions and also practiced applying the trapezoidal rule to solve area problems.

Recent Challenges

During a recent Year 9 session, one student avoided showing working in algebra, preferring to "do it in her head"—as the tutor noted, this led to small errors that could have been caught with clearer written steps.

In Year 7, another student skipped homework assignments meant for revision; when questioned, she hadn't attempted any questions or reached out for help.

Meanwhile, a senior student preparing for exams became flustered under timed conditions and missed key marks on trigonometry because "she couldn't settle into an exam mindset."

These habits left gaps in understanding and undermined confidence during assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Marayong tutor noticed a big change in a Year 10 student, Alysse, who used to hesitate with financial maths—she recently achieved 95% on an assessment after practising new strategies and now tries different ways of factorising problems herself.

In Year 8, Hima moved from struggling with algebra to correctly answering almost every question in a challenging set, showing real persistence and focus during sessions.

Meanwhile, Michael in Year 2 has started reading sight words independently and now completes addition questions without needing help, finishing his worksheet by himself for the first time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Yes Taylor is working out very well. Ruby likes her and is responding well to her. Thank you for your assistance.

Both Juliana and I are very happy with Neha's tutoring skills, she seems very focused and smart and Juliana likes her.

Darren is a great tutor and I'm extremely happy. Fletcher has made amazing progress in the few lessons that he had had. Fletcher likes Darren and is comfortable with his teaching style.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lalor Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marayong Heights Public School.
