The willingness to help and to commit time, energy, and patience. If the tutor is doing for the sake of doing, it shows the lack of commitment. I truly believe that teaching is a passion-driven job. Students will know your desire and commitment. One of my strength is my willingness to go down to the students' level rather than expecting the…

I believe that it is paramount for a tutor to understand that every student learns differently and therefore may need a different approach to studying to achieve their goals. A tutor should ask their student how they learn best and implement this feedback into their approach to tutoring. Similarly, it is important to understand that each student…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to be absolutely encouraging in whatever the student wants to achieve in anything they are learning. It's important because that strongly affects the students drive and perseverance in mastering a certain subject. A tutor can be inspiring to the student with the right and excited attitude I believe that i…

In school, they teach students based on a certain method that suits a cohort or class of students, which caused some students to lag behind. I find that as a tutor, we need to identify which part is lagging behind, then tackle it together with the student. I am friendly so I could easily build a rapport with my students. I come in understanding…

Treat each student as an individual person. The same methods of tutoring might not apply on the other. Moreover patience is necessary. Tutors should maintain a pace comfortable for the student. Tutors should be humble enough to admit if they don't know few answers and should be able to research and provide the answers to the student. I learn…

Empathy: Understand how the student is feeling or understood a particular concept based on their behavioural and body language cues. This is because most students do not give explicit feedback. Understanding the student's learning pace: Every student is unique and have their own pace of learning. As a tutor you need to adapt to that. I am…

I believe that a good tutor has the the ability to help students build confidence for the classroom, and inspire them to be the best that they can be. Another thing that is important to me is not belittling the student or making them feel "stupid" for not understanding, but instead relating to them and helping them find a different way to solve…

I believe be able to help students in study is one important thing. However helping them emotionally and in life could be essential for them. The most important thing to keep in mind when tutoring in my opinion is to help them gain confidence & enjoyment in the subject. If a student believes they are bad at a subject, they often won't try as hard because they view it as pointless. Confirmation bias can also lead to only noticing when they make mistakes, meaning they won't recognise the…

As the old Navajo proverb goes, you satiate a person's hunger by giving them fish, they go hungry again in an hour, you teach them how to fish, you feed them for a lifetime. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and understand. Students who are strugglings with certain subjects might not actually be bad at the subjects but rather they might not have had proper guidance from their teachers or they do not have a strong foundation, or they are just not studying in the right method. Each…

Firstly, a tutor has to be able to understand the student's needs and then personalise a learning plan/ style that works for the student - one size does not fit all! Secondly, the tutor needs to guide the student not get them to parrot generic question answers. It's about building the students confidence up, through positive encouragement, and…

As a tutor, I think it's important to be there for them. Learning loads of new concepts almost every second day can be overwhelming and with that, all students have their strengths and weaknesses. Thus as a tutor it would be a good measure to know their strengths and weaknesses and work with them through their weaknesses and add them to the list…

Inside MaribyrnongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Sophia focused on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, as well as converting improper fractions to mixed numbers using visual models.

Year 8 student Jack worked through linear equations with two variables and practiced times tables for fluency.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Mia tackled trigonometric ratios in right-angled triangles and applied Pythagoras' theorem to solve worded geometry problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was assigned Algebraic Fractions homework but left it incomplete, which slowed progress during the next session—he needs to finish the assigned homeworks on Algebraic Fractions.

In Year 11 Biology, one learner tended to rely on memorising definitions instead of connecting concepts using textbook readings and key terms; this led to difficulty answering deeper questions.

For a Year 5 student, written working was often skipped in multiplication problems: "thinks a lot in her head. Does not write working out," making it harder for her to catch errors or remember steps later.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Maribyrnong noticed a big shift with one Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitating to ask for help, now confidently voices questions when stuck—this change meant he could work through challenging algebraic fractions without guessing.

Another high schooler recently completed a matrix assignment entirely on his own and presented each step clearly for the first time, following earlier struggles with laying out his solutions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student moved from needing hands-on support for two-digit addition to accurately solving three-digit problems independently and even explaining her steps out loud during the session.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Just to let you know that we have been pleased to see Romy's confidence grow in direct response to Ezy Math tutoring. We fully intend to continue with your company in 2013 ...

Dev is great and Thea's maths is really coming along.  She's more confident and much better.  She didn't have much to catch up on but still a little further to go I think.  We're very happy with Dev.  Thank you.

Justin has been such an asset to Connor, honestly, his confidence and understanding has improved with Justin's assistance. We are so greatful to yourselves and Justin for all the work and patience over the past couple of weeks.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Maribyrnong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Margaret's Primary School.
