From my previous experience teaching a lot of students. The most vital point the student wants from their mentor is compassion and sympathy to connect with them. Once I can connect with them, I can understand at what level they are currently in and use the best method to help them strive to the best possible level they can achieve for the given…

Well, I believe it is understanding them and their concerns and not giving them pressure for not understanding a certain topic. We can help them by cheering them up instead of making them feel small for not understanding. I believe my patience and understanding towards the person. Everyone has their own level of understanding depending on the…

For me, the two most vital things a tutor can do are to make learning stick and make it last. To make it stick, I focus on practical application. I bridge the gap between textbook theory and the real world, which makes the information tangible and easier to comprehend. To make it last, I focus on building the skills for continuous,…

By tailoring their approach to individual needs, clarifying concepts, and promoting critical thinking, tutors help build students' confidence and foster a positive learning environment. The most important thing in teaching is to make the student believe that they will surpass any goals they set their minds into. Level communication in a way the students will be comfortable to interact with. It will be best if the students seek out help and teachers guide them into analyzing the problem themselves. This is when students start to…

As a previous student, one thing i realized that differentiated good tutors from mediocre ones is their ability to connect with me. As a shy person, I only felt comfortable asking questions to tutors that I was connected to. And so, I believe that the most important thing for tutors is to try to form a rapport relationship with their students, as…

In my opinion successful tutors build strong, personal relationships with their students. Also tutors listen and communicate early and often with parents and teachers. I am the type pf person who is willing to put as much as effort as possible to get the student satisfactory grades. I am also kind and doesn't get furstrated when…

The most important thing a tutor can do is find the most efficient way to deliver concepts to their students. This will always change for each student, and so a good tutor has to be flexible and receptive to what works and what doesn't. The end goal really is to get them educated, and if that means fostering a strong friendly connection or simply…

Along with my problem-solving skills, my deeper understanding of the subjects is important for my student as well. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student to lift them up what they feel mostly interested while learning anything. To motivate them while they do something new and bring any new idea to resolve any problem. That will help to develop the psychology of a student in more positive way to move forward with their willingness of thinking…

I think besides helping a student with his/her academics, a tutor can act as a role model for him/her or someone he/she can look up to. A tutor can not only provide academic assistance but also can broadens a student's outlook in many ways by sharing with him/her many stories, news and also giving an idea about manners and ethics as well. The most…

Inside MaribyrnongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Sophia focused on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, as well as converting improper fractions to mixed numbers using visual models.

Year 8 student Jack worked through linear equations with two variables and practiced times tables for fluency.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Mia tackled trigonometric ratios in right-angled triangles and applied Pythagoras' theorem to solve worded geometry problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was assigned Algebraic Fractions homework but left it incomplete, which slowed progress during the next session—he needs to finish the assigned homeworks on Algebraic Fractions.

In Year 11 Biology, one learner tended to rely on memorising definitions instead of connecting concepts using textbook readings and key terms; this led to difficulty answering deeper questions.

For a Year 5 student, written working was often skipped in multiplication problems: "thinks a lot in her head. Does not write working out," making it harder for her to catch errors or remember steps later.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Maribyrnong noticed a big shift with one Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitating to ask for help, now confidently voices questions when stuck—this change meant he could work through challenging algebraic fractions without guessing.

Another high schooler recently completed a matrix assignment entirely on his own and presented each step clearly for the first time, following earlier struggles with laying out his solutions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student moved from needing hands-on support for two-digit addition to accurately solving three-digit problems independently and even explaining her steps out loud during the session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Maribyrnong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Margaret's Primary School.
