I can make them solve problems in the least time possible. If they were to face a multiple choice questions scenario I can help the eliminate options in a logical way. I am a engineer who loves Mathematics a lot more than Physics. To be more frank I can even solve a math problem in my head, give multiple choice questions I can even solve them…

I think the most important part about tutoring isn't necessarily what the student sees but behind the scenes. Being a maths tutor means understanding the expectations and goals that are set out for the student, this includes being up to date on the child's curriculum and being prepared to touch on topics the student has previously struggled with…

The most important a maths tutor can do for a student is to be engaging. There is no point in teaching a student if he/she is not engaged in the content and not absorbing it. Tutors should be aware of his student's needs and wants in order to best engage them in the lesson and material in order to ensure the most rewarding learning experience.…

I think one of the most important things a maths tutor could do for their student is to never push them to work too hard or too fast. I also think it is extremely important for the tutor to be open-minded towards the student and take into account their preferences when working or learning. I think something else a tutor should always do for their…

I think the most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is to help them grasp/love a subject. I believe that without a genuine passion for a subject, a student can really struggle to proceed through it especially throughout the whole year. I think that if a tutor is able to help a student grasp/understand/love a subject, it can help…

Tutors should not only be proficient at teaching but also building the students' self esteem. As a maths tutor, I want my students to be confident in their ability and give them the conviction they need to achieve their goals. Secondly, it is also important for a tutor to be humble and open to making mistakes in the classroom. Having the humility…

One of the most important things a maths tutor can do for a student is be adaptable and acknowledge that there isn't one learning style that fits every student. A good prospective tutor should be able to explain problems/concepts from various vantage points and have the ability to communicate information clearly and concisely to their students…

As stated in my strengths, taking the time to understand how the student learns. Throwing solutions at someone won't help if you do not provide an explanation they can understand. I believe as well as this, building a decent relationship with the student is important, no one wants to learn from someone they dislike, so being friendly and genuinely…

The most important thing a maths tutor can do for a student is be an inspiring role model, as if the student has no one to look up to, then they are not going to have any incentive to educate themselves. A tutor should be able to engage the student in the subject as much as possible, whilst explaining the big ideas behind what they are doing. This, i believe, will help students not only understand but also love the subject and get interested in it, which in turn will promote more engagement from their side and hence increase their grades. I think…

Personally, I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient. Inside MaroubraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Claudia focused on division and 3D shapes, connecting these to fractions while completing her Excel homework.

For Year 7 Ava, lessons explored coordinate geometry by graphing with tables of values and investigating transformations of shapes on a number plane.

A Year 8 student worked through the introduction to trigonometry using SOHCAHTOA as well as solving simultaneous equations by substitution and elimination methods.

Recent Challenges

In Year 6, one student often avoided showing working in algebra and fractions, especially when unsure—"she would pause, then erase attempts rather than risk a mistake." This hesitation meant feedback opportunities were missed and progress slowed during lessons.

A Year 10 student tackling trigonometry tended to rely heavily on calculator shortcuts for even basic steps, which led to gaps in understanding key trig definitions.

In Year 8 algebra, another lost focus midway through multi-step problems; as noted, "he'd get distracted and forget earlier steps," leading to repeated errors that undermined his confidence in class.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Maroubra noticed Ava, a Year 7 student, recently started checking her own working for mistakes and now asks for tougher questions when she finishes early—this is a big shift from when she'd quietly move on without double-checking.

In Year 6, Claudia used to hesitate with division by large numbers but can now independently solve problems involving six-digit dividends and confidently explains each step aloud.

Meanwhile, Gia (Year 4) has begun completing her homework before sessions without reminders and last week attempted all the "challenge" questions for the first time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy with Sean, the kids have responded very well to him and even look forward to the sessions!

Abed is passionate about maths, and is very keen to teach his student, and ensure they are succeeding. He is an asset to Ezymaths.

Things are going really well. Kai enjoys Noah's tutoring. On his last math's assessment he received 80% in comparison to the one before which was 55%. I met with his math's school teacher and she has provided upcoming topics for Noah to discuss with Kai as well as 2 practice tests. Her feedback was positive too and constructive. If we stay on this path, I'm confident that it will prepare him well for the upcoming HSC.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lionel Bowen Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Aidan's Catholic Primary School.
