There are three things that I would consider to be the most important would be building confidence, providing clarity but also foster independent learning. Firstly, many students struggle, not because they lack ability but because doubt themselves, thus by acknowledging progress no matter how small will help students believe in their own…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is always listen to what the student needs and try to expand upon their techniques that they use in their subjects. This allows the student to manipulate different techniques in their subjects for different topics, whether it may be working on Maths questions or planning how to write…

A success of being a tutor is the success of building their students' confidence, not only in their study but in their life as well. Because it is really great to see they are happier in themselves when they come home from school and the actual achievement they can make after receiving a proper tutoring session. I used to get lower grades in the…

I believe tutoring helps students develop a genuine love for learning. There are 2 characteristics a tutor needs to achieve this. Firstly, the tutor should have an open and friendly personality. Learning is inherently effortful, and having someone friendly to guide the process makes it more enjoyable and productive. Additionally, tutors need to…

Being encouraging, speaking clearly, giving comments, and keeping up students' motivation are what tutors should focus on most. The goal is to understand each student's needs and modify the approach as necessary. Students' personal and academic development is promoted by a supportive and upbeat learning environment, as well as by setting…

It is pivotal that the tutor is always easily approachable as otherwise shy students may be reluctant to ask the tutor questions and thus those shy kids may end up falling behind. In addition, I feel that tutors must always be supportive towards the student as any harsh or negative comments may severely hinder a students willingness and ability to…

Monique is a quiet tutor that suited my daughter. Monique took the time to build a relationship with my daughter building her confidence to ask questions she did not understand with her year 4 maths. Now Monique can see where Tayha needs support she has set tasks for her in these areas. I am very happy with the tutoring provided and can recommend Monique to other parents looking at tutoring for their child. Lyndel

Inside MarsdenTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Zane worked on algebraic expressions and Venn diagrams, using visual methods to clarify set relationships.

For Year 11, Gurnoor analysed the control of society in both her main text and "V for Vendetta," focusing on evidence to strengthen her English assessment.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Aryan tackled exponential and logarithmic functions, specifically practising the laws of exponents and logarithms through step-by-step problem sets.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion was inconsistent in both Year 4 and Year 9: one student "said that she had completed it" but hadn't, while a senior student left revision unchecked.

A Year 10 student relied heavily on cheat sheets for equations, slowing real mastery—"still needs to know how to find the time (seconds) for the functions."

In Year 12 Maths, lack of confidence led to hesitancy and missed opportunities to apply correct formulas, as noted: "there was a lot of self-doubt present when she would answer questions." In these moments, progress paused while reassurance or extra guidance replaced independent problem-solving.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Marsden recently noticed some great shifts across different year levels. In Year 11, one student who used to hesitate during trigonometry review was able to identify her own exam mistakes and confidently correct them, showing real independence compared to earlier sessions.

Another high schooler worked through derivatives—after initially struggling with the concept of instantaneous rate of change, he ended up solving most questions on his own by the end.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who rarely spoke up now talks aloud while working through addition and subtraction problems, which has helped her catch errors herself; last session she completed nearly all sums correctly without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Marsden Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marsden State High School.
