Along with knowing the students syllabus well, I believe that having patience and the ability to stay flexible with teaching methods is the best quality in a tutor. Knowing how to adapt to the students pace and patiently responding to their questions is an effective way to keep the student motivated and excited to learn new concepts. I am very…

Personally, I recognize that there are many responsibilities that a diligent tutor must fulfill, these include: - patience (no matter how many times a student doesn't understand a concept, a tutor should be patient and keep trying) - A supportive environment (students shouldn't feel judged and should have the confidence to openly ask…

This comes from being able to put yourself in their position before answering their questions and trying to be as tailored to every students learning ability. Also to be highly motivated to impact the greater good which will be…

Overall I believe that for a child to succeed they must be put at the centre of their learning. This will ensure that they get the best out of their education, and that all learning that takes place is for the best interests of the child. My role as a tutor is not to manufacture a result, it is only to facilitate the student's journey in learning. This is why the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is guide them through their own journey, being present with them in times of difficulty to instruct and clarify questions they need answered most. This extends beyond just…

Important things a tutor can do for a student is helping or inspiring them when they are struggling with a concept in a subject they find hard or dislike. Being able to explain a concept in a way a student can visualise and understand it clearly is also important. Besides teaching, a tutor should be a person a student can connect or talk with…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student’s self-confidence. Often, the biggest barrier to learning is the fear of being 'bad' at a subject. A great tutor removes that fear by creating a structured environment where the student feels in control of their progress. Active listening to identify exactly where the gaps in…

The most important thing is to be of assistance. Every student has the potential to achieve good marks and be great at something. We as tutors need to learn and understand students as individuals. We need to guide and assist them as best as possible so they can forge there own career path. We were also students at one point in our life and we also…

Inside Marsden ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Aidan focused on interpreting and sketching quadratic graphs, applying the quadratic formula, and understanding gradients, often using pen-and-paper calculations.

For Year 11, Priya worked through exponential equations and logarithms, linking them to solving quadratic equations as part of advanced algebra practice.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Jack revised differentiation techniques including the product rule and chain rule, alongside tackling problems involving the differentiation of exponential functions from his school booklet.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student regularly left homework incomplete or rushed, especially with trigonometry, leading to forgotten formulas week-to-week—he was not completing HW to the best of his ability which is impacting his ability to retain the content.

In Year 10 algebra lessons, another student relied heavily on memorising rules rather than understanding them, struggling when questions changed format.

A senior (Year 11) found it difficult to simplify indices before starting calculus problems because basic practice was skipped; this slowed down progress and made new concepts feel overwhelming.

During sessions, several high schoolers lost focus or hesitated to ask questions, making it harder for them to regain confidence after setbacks.

Recent Achievements

One Marsden Park tutor noticed a Year 11 student who, after struggling with trigonometry and graph transformations, was able to clearly explain the impact of changing variables on parabolic graphs and confidently graph them himself.

In another high school session, a Year 10 student who had always hesitated to ask for help started speaking up when stuck, working through challenging bearings questions that previously left him lost.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 4 moved from guessing at measurement conversions to independently turning centimeters into meters and solving area problems step by step without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mt Druitt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marsden Park Public School.
